Monday Motivator: Meet Sarah & Colleen

Catch some crazy-good Monday Motivator vibes from besties Sarah and Colleen. They keep each other accountable for working out - and brunching it out  - after! Pretty much inseparable, they sweat together, bike to work together and even carpool to Rev together. Find out why sweating together really is better, in their fun Q&A below.

1. Give us a quick background on yourself.
Colleen: I moved to Buffalo from Ann Arbor, Michigan just about 2 years ago to work for Campus Labs. That’s where I met Sarah! Not only is she a great friend and motivator, she is an exceptional Buffalo ambassador. I am happy to call Elmwood home and love to cook and try new recipes in my tiny apartment. Over the past years I have grown to love this city and becoming a part of the Rev community has definitely played an important role in that. I love this positive, supportive community of folks who work their butts off!
Sarah: I’m a Syracuse native, but have long considered Buffalo home – I am over-the-top in love with this city. I live on the west side with my husband and our pit bull, where we’re painstakingly renovating a 117-year-old home (we haven’t had a fully functioning kitchen for almost two years!). As a former college athlete, I’ve struggled with fitness since graduation, since it was no longer scheduled or done as part of a team, but Rev has certainly fixed that problem. The last six months have been so much more enjoyable and successful than anything else I’ve done, so huge props to Colleen for suggesting we "give it a try!"

2. Describe your best workout ever in just three words.
Colleen: Maxed-out and sweaty.
Sarah: Sweating. To. NSYNC. (I’ve been loving the boy band classes!)

3. What song(s) are you obsessed with right now?
Colleen: I love Latin pop and reggaetón in the summer. Right now there is a lot of Chantaje by Shakira ft. Maluma, and Hasta el Amanecer by Nicky Jam in my life.
Sarah: Colleen is way hipper than I am – I have no idea what any of that is. Honest answer? I practically have Harry Styles’ new album on repeat at work.  I’m also super obsessed with Bruno Mars.

4. Any healthy habits to start/end your day?
Colleen: If I’m not just barely rolling out of bed before Sarah picks me up for a morning Rev class, I start my day by turning on NPR, drinking a big glass of water and making a pour over. In the evenings I am a chamomile tea addict.
Sarah: Rev on many mornings! Colleen and I often bike into the office, which is always a nice way to start and end the work day. 

5. How do you help keep each other motivated to work out?
Colleen: I’m not going to lie, there are moments when we’re on our way home from work and say “Man, what if we just stopped and did happy hour downtown instead of working out?” However, in the end we always show up and hold each other accountable because we know how good it feels after a class. We know we can still make time for patio drinks and Sunday bloody marys after we get our classes in.
Sarah: A gentle reminder about the bloody marys we’ll be consuming that weekend usually does the trick. Having a workout buddy, in general, does the job for me. If I know Colleen is waiting for me to pick her up for class, then that means I have to peel myself out of bed and get there! 

6. Favorite workout on the bike - hills, sprints, isolations or tap backs?
Colleen: I’m really learning to love hills. "Resistance is your friend," as Lauren would say!
Sarah: Tap back/pushups, for sure. It definitely taps into my competitive side – I refuse to fall behind the instructor!

 7. Buffalo food truck you can't live without?
Colleen: Lloyd is of course a classic. I also like O.G. Woodfire – it’s hard to beat a good pizza.
Sarah: I had a meal from Lomo Lomo that changed my life. Also a huge fan of the veggie dog from Frank and the fish tacos from Lloyd.


Monday Motivator: Meet Jess

Meet this week's Monday Motivator - Jess! A Buffalo babe through and through, she's obsessed with donuts, her adorable pup Tony, and Rev! Catch her sweatin' up a storm on the bikes, or pushing through some major strength moves on the TRX multiple times a week. She keeps her routine balanced ... maybe that's so she can enjoy all the tacos, pierogi and donuts mentioned below! (We feel ya girl!)


1. Give us a quick background on yourself.
Born on the East Side; where all the Polish people used to reside. Raised in Cheektowaga; where all the Polish people eventually moved to. Rented in Elmwood/Allentown (during/after college) for about 9 years and currently living in North Buffalo with my 2 boyfriends (one is a tad furrier).

Many people think they have seen me before which is more than likely true. (You probably saw me slaving at Urban Outfitters or drinking at The Pink – I have moved on from both, sadly). My fitness journey actually began once I quit my retail job and I also picked up a hobby of calligraphy (@hand_and_ink) – shameless plug, get at me RevBrides!

4. Any healthy habits to start/end your day?
Cuddling and kissing the love of my life.  His name is Tony, he's French, and he walks on 4 legs. (Ok, my obsession could be slightly unhealthy but the love isn’t!) Oh, and lemon water every morning.

5. Any indulgences you just can't live without?
DOUGHNUTS – if you tell me you ‘donut’ like them, you are lying (to me or yourself).

Lloyds – tacos are life.
Ru’s Pierogi is a close runner up (I am 100% Polish and pierogies are pretty much the Polish taco).


Monday Motivators: Meet Erin

This adorable new mom (with another on the way!) is giving us alll the Monday Motivator feels. Erin balances a delicate ecosystem that is her 8-month old, full time job in law enforcement, awesome hubby and baby-to-be, with fitness goals that have her getting her sweat on 4x/week. Find out how she does it all below.

1. Give us a quick background on yourself.
I have an 8 month old son, Jack, and another little one on the way in November. I work in law enforcement which keeps me on my toes. My husband and I both work full-time so it's very important to us to make sure we plan out our workout schedules well in advance. I try to get to Rev four times a week, but sometimes Jack (and life) doesn't allow for it!

2. Describe your best workout ever in just three words.
TRX and Tots! The added 20+lbs from my son was a total game changer.

3. What song(s) are you obsessed with right now?
You really want to know?  I'm an old soul and lately cannot stop listening to John Denver (I blame the pregnancy hormones).

​4. Any healthy habits to start/end your day?
I start and end my day with Jack who is always watching so I make sure to eat healthy and stay active.  Jack is now eating solid foods so it's important to my husband and I to incorporate fruits and vegetables into his routine as well as our own.

5. Any indulgences you just can't live without?
All things Bravo. And I am a true crime addict! Not only do I work in the field but you can usually find me with my office door shut, listening to the "My Favorite Murder" podcast.

6. Favorite workout on the bike - hills, sprints, isolations or tap backs?​
I love a good hill! There is no better feeling than reaching the top.

I am dying to try the Healthy Scratch.


Monday Motivator: Meet Emily

It's a rainy start to the week, so let's channel our own inner-Californian and learn more about today's Monday Motivator, Emily. She moved all the way across the country to attend nursing school in Buffalo. She's adjusted very well to her new surroundings here with the help of her nursing school friends, Lululemon and of course, the ever-welcoming clients at Rev.

1. Give us a quick background on yourself.

I was raised in San Diego, CA for majority of my life, but was interestingly enough born in Toronto, ON. After finishing up my first degree at the University of Arizona, I moved to Buffalo, NY to attend nursing school at D'Youville College and have been here for a little over a year now. I moved alone and knew no one before my move, but have come to love Buffalo enough to call it home and have met friends I would consider family. I work as a nurse assistant at Sister's of Charity Hospital and also work at lululemon athletica, which originally introduced rev to me! I am so grateful to be part of such a wonderful community at rev that has such a positive impact on me both mentally and physically. Colleen, Amanda, and all of the rev community has welcomed me with open arms and has made my across the country transition, so much easier.

2. Describe your best workout in three words. 

Confidence. Empowering. Enlightened.

Exercise gives me a sense of accomplishment and allows me to see the lengths at what my body can go to. It gives me strength in all aspects of my life.   
3. What song(s) are you obsessed with right now?

I am such a sucker for any EDM or tropical house music, especially in the gym. My main baes are Flume and Kygo, but that totally varies. You'll find me occasionally Shazaming some of the girls’ music during rev classes because they play the BEST music! Currently I'm obsessed with Fire (Paris Blohm Remix) by 3LAU, Neonheart, & Paris Blohm and Your Shirt by Chelsea Cutler.

4. Any healthy habits to start your day?
Generally the first thing I do when I wake up is make my bed, light up my diffuser in my room, make a cup of tea, pack up my bag for rev, and head on over for an early morning spin class (love me some 5:45am spin). After spin I go straight to work at the hospital.

5. Any indulgences you can't live without?

At the end of the day and right before bed, squeezing in some Netflix time is essential (& maybe some Halotop too).

6. Favorite workout on the bike? Sprints, hills, isolations or tap backs?

Call me crazy but my favorite workout on the bike are sprints. Although at the end of the workout, I have a love for all of them. 

7. Favorite Buffalo food truck?
Okay so I still have not been to any food truck Tuesday events (currently on summer 2017 bucket list), but I have been to Llyods, which was amazing, and I've been dying to try The Healthy Scratch.


Monday Motivator: Meet Blair

We hope that along with enjoying the kick-off of summer, you've all been taking some time to reflect on all of those have given their lives for our country so that we can continue ours. We'd also like to introduce you to today's Monday Motivator Blair. This legal assistant had a major hang up regarding trying out a group fitness class but thanks to her BFF, she jumped in and hasn't looked back. We're so happy we get to be part of her fitness revolution!


1. Give us a quick background on yourself.

I am 26 and a legal assistant at a small law firm. I am from Clarence, but I moved away for college in Indiana and work in Chicago for a few years. I joined Rev after trying the Thursday TRX with one of my best friends. I'm so glad she introduced me to the class. I love the workout and I look forward to it every week.

2. Describe your best workout ever in just three words.

3. What song(s) are you obsessed with right now?

I highly recommend seeing Moana, you'll love the songs too!

4. Any healthy habits to start/end your day?

I start the day with two eggs and a cup of black coffee to wake up. I end my day with a glass of water at dinner.

5. Any indulgences you just can't live without?

Chocolate and candy!

6. Favorite workout on the bikes - hills, sprints, isolations or tap backs?

I would say sprints, but since I come for the TRX classes, my favorite moves are standing hip drops and tricep extensions.

Monday Motivators: Meet Alyssa

Before this girl is even out the door, she's got some majorly enviable healthy habits. (Vinyasa, meditation, dry brushing and cold showers anyone?) Meet Alyssa, this week's hard-working, health-conscious, Kunis-loving Monday Motovator!

1. Give us a quick background on yourself.
I grew up in Buffalo, and moved back two years ago after living in Boston and Los Angeles, where I studied and worked in "art" and fashion. I'm currently enrolled at D'Youville College, pursuing a career as a psychiatric nurse practitioner, and I work as an activities aide with Alzheimer's patients.

2. Describe your best workout ever in three words:
Actually. Dead. Afterwards.

3. What songs are you obsessed with right now? 
"Slide", by Calvin Harris/Frank Ocean and "Told You I'd Be With the Guys", by Cherry Glazerr.

4. Any healthy habits to start or end your day?
I do 3 or 5 vinyasas every morning, followed by ten minutes of meditation, then I dry brush and take a cold(ish) shower. I try to meditate again in the early afternoon, and again before bed.

5. Favorite workout on the bike - hills, sprints, isolations or tap backs?​
Isolations !!!!!

6. Buffalo food truck you can't live without?
I've never been to a food truck in Buffalo, actually. I like to cook/ assemble salads, but my love for Kuni's is pure and true.


Monday Motivators Mother's Day Edition: Meet Alisha & Mama J

Anyone that has seen Alisha & Pat (fondly known as Mama J) together in class can see that they have a really strong mother-daughter relationship. But this Mothers Day, we feel it's important to share just how strong their bond is. Trust us, we've known them for 15 years - we've had a long time to watch the dynamic! From milestone surprise birthday parties for Mama J, to nights spent out and in together, these two are there for each other no matter what. When Mama J had a heart attack a year and half ago, Alisha was her tireless and dedicated support. We will never forget the feeling the day she came back to Rev for her first class, such a huge victory!

Read on for all the details, including what TRX move Alisha has to hold for 60 seconds as a Mother's Day gift.

PS, we may have asked some leading questions in order for you all to hear about the delicious monstrosity that is Alisha's Doritos with melted cheese/banana peppers ... 


1. Give us some detail on your fitness journey:
Alisha: I grew up playing a few different sports, mainly basketball and soccer. I cheered in high school and college as well. When college ended, I needed to find something to keep me active. I started spinning about 10 years ago and then picked up TRX to mix up my routine. Even though I DREAD running, I completed my first (and forever last) half marathon and Buffalo Relay in memory of my cousin.
Mama J: Alisha and I used to go to spinning a few times a week downtown at the BAC. I like taking my bike out when the weather is nice, too. When Rachel, Amanda, and Colleen opened Rev, I started going there. I had a heart attack about 18 months ago and it's very scary to get back to working out. You don't know how your body will react. But it feels great to be back on the bike!

2. What is your perfect mother/daughter date?
Spin, shop, walk our pup Hercules, and lunch at Olive Garden..soup, salad, breadsticks anyone? We've been doing the same thing for years.

3. What's her weirdest healthy habit?
A: In the cold weather she would walk around the garage to make her Fitbit steps for the day.
Mama J: Alisha meal preps obsessively during the week.

4. ​Favorite healthy meal?
A: Sushi from Kumo or egg whites and baked sweet potatoes.
Mama J: Chopped salad from Cheesecake Factory or an Olive Garden light fare chicken dish with breaded zucchini .

5. Favorite UNhealthy meal?​
A: Doritos, cheese, and banana peppers. Heat all three up together and you'll be surprised by the end result.
Mama J: I love French fries and Imperial pizza

​6. Who is the ringleader when it comes to signing up for class?
A: Definitely me. I set an alarm to make sure I get into class.
Mama J: Alisha. She reminds me to sign up.

7. What is your favorite song to spin to?
A: Right now I would say Yellow Claw, "City on Lockdown" or "Believer" by Major Lazer
Mama J: Anything fun and upbeat.

8. Tell us one fun fact about yourself:
A: I've been to Cuba!
Mama J: I live on the waterfront and there is always something fun going on. I love to participate in the many local activities.

In honor of Mother's Day, what's one TRX move you'd make Alisha do for 60 seconds straight?​

Monday Motivator: Meet Natalie

When someone's boyfriend nominates them for Monday Motivator because he "doesn't know anyone who loves Rev more than she does," you make them Monday Monday Motivator. Not only does Natalie love Rev, she totally kicks ass at everything Rev-related. She bikes, she rows, she TRX-es. And she does it all with a giant smile and positive attitude. Get to know this rockstar below!


1. Give us a quick background on yourself.
I'm a Buffalo girl born and raised and came back home after college to work at New Era Cap for the NFL (Go Bills)! My boyfriend and I live around Elmwood and he just moved back home from NYC so I love exploring all the new Buffalo places with him. We try to get outside as much as possible - we loved Citi Biking down the West Side Highway in the city so I'm excited to try the ones in Buffalo this summer! I got into Rev about a year ago and now I love incorporating in my daily life and bringing my friends. As we lose our 21-year-old metabolisms, it's fun to get together and do a class (and then head to brunch & mimosas) for a different activity.

2. Describe your best workout ever in just three words.
"That was fun." - I love trying to get the best out of myself every day and even when I'm exhausted I can smile a little knowing that.

3. What song(s) are you obsessed with right now?
"Body Like a Backroad" - Sam Hunt
"This Feeling" - Alabama Shakes
"That's What I Like" - Bruno Mars

​4. Any healthy habits to start/end your day?
Every morning I try to start my day with a cup of hot lemon water and just relax on my couch for a few seconds and enjoy the calm before heading out the door.

I'm obsessed with any and all variations of mac and cheese so you can usually find me at Macarollin' or The Whole Hog at Larkin on Tuesdays.


Monday Motivator: Meet Courtney

April showers bring..badasses like Courtney. Kick off May by getting to know this spunky, strong lady who loves dancing it up on that bike. She revs it up almost everyday and ALWAYS takes the option to make that TRX move as tough as possible.


1. Give us a quick background on yourself
Born and raised in Buffalo!  Currently living downtown, but I grew up in Angola where my family's hot dog stand of 74 years is, Connors, with 7 siblings and a TON of my cousins.  People always ask what it was like growing up in a household with that many and I always say I can't imagine growing up any other way.  When you have that many siblings you grow up not having any fears and are constantly trying new things.  Even to this day they are teaching me and pushing me to do great things.  My REV connection is Rachel! I am very lucky to work at Rich's where I met Rachel which in turn brought me to this awesome REV Community.  

2. Describe your best workout ever in just three words.
Endurance. Lifting. Shaking.

3.  What song(s) are you obsessed with right now?
I LOVE a good DJ- take the Ultra Music Festival and Coachella- with some throwback remixes

4. Any healthy habits to start/end your day? 
There is nothing like starting or ending your day with a good sweat!  Anyone can be a morning person! Give it two weeks and you will be hooked.  Now that it's warm out, I will try and end each day with a walk or a bike ride to see the awesome Buffalo sunsets.

5.  Favorite workout on the bike - hills, sprints, isolations or tap backs?
Hills!  I like the tension and the challenge of a heavy hill.  Hills make you sweat and definitely whittle your middle!! :)

How do I ... Where do I ... What does this mean? Helpful RevReminders!

 Whether you're a newbie or a seasoned vet, read on for some helpful RevReminders to keep in your back pocket!

1. Before your first class, please arrive 15 minutes early. This will allow our team to help you set up for your ride, row or TRX class and show you around. Not your first class? Please arrive 5 minutes early - classes will start on time! If you're more than 5 minutes late, your bike may be given to a walk-in client.

2. We have free parking (for 40+ cars!) alongside the building. Please pull down the driveway between 1716 Main St. and the church next door. If you’d prefer to park out front, there is free street parking available on both sides of the road.

3. Please do not wear street shoes on the bikes or mats. We do ask that you bring a pair of sneakers to change into. This helps us keep our equipment running in tip top shape for all your sweating needs!

4. Our week unlimited class pack is a great way to try a variety of classes and instructors. And good news – your package (along with any of our unlimited packages) won’t start to count down until you’re first class. So for example, you can purchase today, register for class 5 days from now and it will begin counting 7 days down from that first class. Yay!

5. If you need to cancel a class we require that you cancel online 12 hours before your scheduled class. All unlimited packs will be charged a $10 late cancellation fee for any cancellation after the 12-hour window. All regular class packs will lose the class. But don’t worry! We get that life happens. If there is a work, family or personal emergency please shoot us an email and we will take you off the class list.

6. So what if you love your first class and you want to register for more? Each class on our schedule opens a week in advance.

7. Three ways to register: A. Revolution Buffalo Website (Schedule allows you to pick your bike seat from our map.) B. MindBody App (You can’t select your bike seat but the app is convenient for quick booking on-the-go.) C. MindBody Website (Again you can’t select your bike seat but it’s still a convenient booking tool.)
