Monday Motivator: Meet Ally

Tell us a little about yourself:
I work at Roswell and just got married in October! I grew up near Binghamton NY but have lived in Buffalo since coming to UB for undergrad in 2009 – can’t believe I’ve been here 10 years! My new husband and I have totally fallen in love with this city, and our favorite hobby is eating and drinking our way around town and documenting it on our food insta, @Tasting_Buffalo (shameless plug).

What does #RevLife means to you?
The first two words that come to mind are community and support. I have a degree in Exercise Science and a Masters in Public Health – we learn in both programs about how a HUGE barrier to being healthy and exercising is the fear of being judged or feeling clueless at a gym. Rev is the polar opposite of that feeling, and I love it. For a while before getting engaged, I wasn’t practicing what I preached, and was really behind in my fitness game. Getting back on track at Rev was so easy because of the supportive community upheld not only by the staff but also by the other clients.
We all get in the zone in different ways, where does your head go during a workout?
Lately when things get tough I remind myself how lucky I am that I am healthy enough and fortunate enough to be able to exercise everyday. There are so many people out there that can’t, whether it’s due to illness or some other factor, so I try to think of my workouts as a celebration of what I can do rather than a requirement that I’m fulfilling.
What’s your favorite class at Rev?
RevRhythm is a straight up party, I love it. Lately I’ve been branching out into some run classes, which has been a huge challenge but so fun.
What’s your favorite meal/snack to eat after a tough workout?
I like to keep it simple with an iced coffee (all year round, baby) and my favorite bars, Raw Rev Glo!
If you have friends visiting from out of town how do you show them the perfect Buffalo day?
Would probably start out on Hertel (my neighborhood) at Bertha’s for breakfast. A Rev class. Wings for lunch at Gabriel’s Gate. Canalside activities, weather permitting! Beers/ciders at Resurgence. Dinner and drinks at my absolute favorite restaurant, Roost. After dinner, round the night out with cocktails at The Curtiss and/or Lucky Day Whiskey Bar. I do realize mostly revolves around eating and drinking, oops!
What’s your favorite place to brunch in Buffalo?
ROOST! I am obsessed with their breakfast pizza.
Early bird or night owl?
As I get older, I am more and more of an early bird.

What’s your ideal rest day look like?
I love running errands in the morning and spending the rest of the day on the couch with some good TV. I am a homebody at heart!

What’s your favorite guilty pleasure song?
Despacito…… ugh

I
f you were shipwrecked on a deserted island which 2 luxury items would you want to have?
Not to be cliche but definitely my iPhone and, for the sake of sun safety, some good sunscreen.

Cats or Dogs?
both, I could never choose I am a sucker for all animals

If you were to win $100 million today what’s the first thing you do?
I’d probably build/renovate our dream house somewhere in the city of Buffalo!
