Monday Motivator: Meet Leo
Tell us a little bit about yourself:
I was born in Austria, and have lived in several countries since. Working as a wine director/sommelier in NYC brought me to America. My wife’s family is adoptive Buffalonians, and the two of us completely fell in love with this city and made the move two years ago. I currently work at Hutch’s, and still co-own the restaurant Upholstery Store: Food and Wine in New York.
What does #revlife mean to you?
It is a community just as Rev want it to be. It does not bring with it any negative connotations and is not simply working out. I truly enjoy coming and look forward to it each day. We’ve made many friends through Rev too.
Why did you decide to run the New York City Marathon?
Two of my best friends are running it and we thought it would be a fun way to stay connected even though we live in different cities now. The funds we are raising are in support of City Harvest’s mission to end hunger through food rescue and distribution, education, and other practical and innovative solutions; this is something that means a lot to me, working in the food industry most of my life.
Who/what inspires you to run?
Coach Kathleen, the running queen!
What’s your favorite song to run to?
Xavier Naidoo, “Dieser Weg,” which is about being on the path of life and sticking with things through easy and hard times.
We know you’re in the hospitality business (which is know to be unhealthy) how do you maintain balance?
With running and Rev! It really is all about carving the time out for yourself and placing a priority on your health.
Favorite place to brunch in Buffalo?
Remedy House, Billy Club, and Roost.
What does your ideal rest day look like?
Being the “King of the Couch,” as my wife Christina calls it. This includes watching German and Austrian TV shows. Followed by cooking a delicious meal.
If you were to win 100 million dollars what would you do with it?
Oh boy… definitely some amazing food and wine trips coupled with donating to organizations with missions I support.
