Monday Motivator: Meet Ashley

Tell us a little bit about yourself.

I grew up in Attica, NY with my mom, dad and younger brother. I was an avid volleyball player and enjoyed learning; but most of all, enjoyed spending time with my friends, including my boyfriend (typical)– who I just married in December!! At the age of 12, I was diagnosed with a brain tumor that caused transient blindness in 1 eye. The tumor was completely eradicated during an emergency surgery at 4am, most of my vision was restored and I recently celebrated being 12 years tumor free! I went to SUNY Brockport where I completed my bachelor’s degree in biology in 2 years and took a little bit to find my place in the realm of medicine, a field I knew I wanted to be a part of, which led me to completing an accelerated nursing program at UB and I recently passing my boards (woot woot)! I will be continuing my education at the University of Rochester in a pediatric nurse practitioner/doctor of nursing practice program in the fall! I am a golden retriever person and love my dog Lucy, I am easily won over by chocolate, ice cream and sour gummy worms and love to be in the presence of good people who make me laugh!

What does #RevLife mean to you?

]Being from a very small town where there are more cows than people and everybody knows your name, I feel a strong sense of community when I walk through the Revolution doors. Being a part of the Rev family has taught me to appreciate what my body can do and having been treated for a brain tumor, having my IT band lengthened, my ATFL repaired and being in a walking boot for too many times to count, I have come to realize how important that is. I don’t think I have ever taken the time to appreciate how strong my body is and Revolution helped me start! #RevLife has a different meaning to everybody, to me, it means community and strength.

We all get in the zone in different ways. Where does your head go during a workout?

I feel like I either just really clear my mind during a workout and don’t think about anything (which is really unlike me, my head is usually always spinning) or I think about how I can improve what I am doing in the moment.

What’s your favorite class at Rev?

So many to choose from. I guess it depends on the mood I’m in. I really love RevShred but also like to hop on the bike for a solid RevRide (something about just being in a dark room for an hour is just so calming).

What’s your favorite meal/snack to eat after a tough workout?

I was so excited when the Healthy Scratch was integrated into Rev because I LOVE the “You’re Out” smoothie as an active recovery snack!

If you have friends visiting from out of town how do you show them the perfect Buffalo day?

Honestly, I bring all of my friends to Revolution when they are visiting Buffalo! I’d most likely take them to Canalside, out to Chef’s for dinner and we’d probably end up at Lake Effect Ice Cream!

What’s your favorite place to brunch in Buffalo?

I love Bertha’s diner! It’s the cutest and you can’t go wrong with anything on their menu!

Early bird or night owl?

Also depends on my mood. Some days I can stay up all hours of the night studying, laughing with friends or watching some great TV show (most likely the Bachelorette or Grey’s Anatomy) and sleep until 10 but other days I love getting up to get an early workout in and starting my day off on the right foot!

What’s your ideal rest day look like?

I have trouble integrating rest days into my schedule but when I do, I am most likely at home with my parents, my brother and his girlfriend, my husband and my dog just taking it easy – sun bathing and whatnot, and I’m probably studying for something.

What’s your Favorite guilty pleasure song?

Oh gosh. I literally can sing any Hannah Montana or Miley Cyrus song and always come running when Mama Mia or Dancing Queen comes on!

If you were shipwrecked on a deserted island which 2 luxury items would you want to have?

Probably my phone and a hammock lol.

Cats or Dogs?

Dogs 100%

If you were to win $100 million today what’s the first you do?

I’d pay off my parent’s mortgage and all of their debt.
