Monday Motivator: Meet Jenna
Tell us a little bit about yourself
Family is the most important thing in my life. I grew up in Buffalo, but my parents and siblings live in Charlotte so I am there quite often. I am an obsessed (dog) mom to Fern, a 1 year-old Coton de Tulear. Paul, my fantastic husband, and I have been married for 3 years.
I LOVE traveling and adventure. I have been to over 60 countries through leisure, volunteer work and study abroad. Traveling, learning about other cultures and helping people along the way has allowed me to accept differences and appreciate where I come from. I genuinely want to make the world a better place.
I am a lover of hygge, tea, Louis Vuitton bags, and all things Harry Potter. I also enjoy the outdoors, being active, reading good books and cooking all the delicious healthy food!
Education/Career: I have a Masters degree in International Business and Strategic Marketing from Niagara University. Though I am extremely career focused, I am also a believer in work life balance. I focus on Strategic Initiatives at M&T for our Business Banking customers (small business oriented). I am challenged and learn every single day at work – and really love my job!
What does #RevLife mean to you? My answer is probably a bit unique from others. A few years ago (way before my Rev days) I was diagnosed with Rhabdomyolsis, a skeletal muscle condition in which my muscle tissue was rapidly destroyed over 24 hours. The muscles in my abdomen, back and legs deteriorated as a result of extreme heavy weightlifting and not listening to my body when I needed rest. I was hospitalized for several weeks. I had to re-learn how to sit and walk again on my own. Although now better (and smarter than before), I am still prone to get more sore or tired than before.
For me #RevLife has been a place that has allowed me to have a healthy relationship with exercise. A place that is good for my physical being – but more so my soul, mind and overall health. A place that encourages me to listen to my body, yet pushes me out of my comfort zone. A place that makes me incredibly happy to walk in the door everyday. I truly feel lucky to be apart of this community.
We all get in the zone in different ways. Where does your head go during a workout? Usually thinking about snacks. If I am running I am usually counting down how much further I have to go!
What’s your favorite class at Rev? I am a huge fan of the cardio and weights blend. RevMvmt and F-HIIT challenge me and keep things spicy!
What’s your favorite meal/snack to eat after a tough workout? Fruit with nut butter (i.e. berries and melted almond butter). On workdays I typically have overnight oats and a protein shake.
If you have friends visiting from out of town how do you show them the perfect Buffalo day? It depends on the season. Delaware Park, Wegmans, Pizza and wings, Holiday Valley, Canalside and (obviously) Rev are all solid ideas.
What’s your favorite place to brunch in Buffalo? Hotel Henry and Public – but there are so many places I haven’t been and want to try!
Early bird or night owl? Early bird – 100%. I love waking up before the rest of the world, watching the sunrise and getting a workout in first thing. To be honest, I prefer to be showered and snuggled in my pjs no later than 7 PM (#wildfridaynight).
What’s your ideal rest day look like? Some sort of active outside recovery (snowboarding, hiking, swimming), a lot of relaxing, good food, a movie and family time!
What’s your favorite guilty pleasure song? I love dancing (fake twerking) and at this moment I am really feeling “Miss New Booty” – oldie but a real goodie.
If you were shipwrecked on a deserted island which 2 luxury items would you want to have? Endless snacks and a big cozy bed. Sign me up.
Cats or Dogs? Is this a serious question?! Insert picture of @Fern_thecoton here.
If you were to win $100 million today what’s the first you do? Hire a lawyer and an accountant. Go off the grid for a bit and then (not in any order) help others, book more travels, invest, and shop!
