Monday Motivator: Meet Nick
Tell us a little bit about yourself:
I am a father to a beautiful little girl. She is caring, intelligent, and has a huge heart – which makes it easy for me to be proud of her and proud to be her dad. I’ve spent the majority of my career in a variety of roles at M&T Bank and I’m grateful to work with a firm that cares so much about the community, its customers, and its employees. When not working or sleeping, I am golfing, reading, traveling, or working out. While the majority of my work outs happen at Rev, I also like to flow at PYB and take the road bike out for easy trips around Buffalo. I almost forgot, I am originally from Syracuse. I initially came to Buffalo to earn my undergraduate degree and play soccer at Canisius College. After school, I landed in Charlotte, NC for a career opportunity, and then eventually made my way back to Buffalo and I’ve been here ever since. I have lived in both the Southtowns and the city, which may be obvious in my answers below.
What does #RevLife mean to you?
It means being part of something bigger than yourself. Sure, it is a place to work out, sweat and meet people – but it is also much more than that. You are part of a community where everyone is working toward a better version of themselves, so they expect more from you. The recent expansion has been really important to the community. Offering more classes allows Rev to enrich more people’s lives in the same amount of time.
We all get in the zone in different ways. Where does your head go during a workout?
It is a rollercoaster of emotions to say the least. I typically start off class by being proud of myself for getting out of bed, then in the middle of class I am wishing I had stayed in bed, and then I finish the class really happy with my decision. During the workout I tend to reflect on why I am there and I have a lot of internal talks with myself about going harder, not giving up, and what I am trying to accomplish.
What’s your favorite class at Rev?
This is a tough one. There isn’t a class I haven’t enjoyed, so I would encourage everyone to try all of them. But if we are going to use data to justify the answer, I am at RevRow most. Mandy does an awesome job with the workout routines and motivating us to push ourselves outside of our comfort zone.
What’s your favorite meal/snack to eat after a tough workout?
My go-to has been the breakfast sandwich at Perks or the Café Breakfast at Remedy House; but I think the Healthy Scratch is going to give both of those places some competition!
What’s your favorite place to brunch in Buffalo?
Here’s my top 5: The Grange in Hamburg, Betty’s, and Sophia’s tie for best all around. Roost for the breakfast pizza or Bolognese. Breadhive for sandwiches.
Tacos or pizza?
Tacos if they’re from Lloyds or ETS (I understand they are two very different places, but I visit each of them to accomplish different things) – unless the pizza is from Mister Pizza, Jay’s Artisan, or Edie’s in Hamburg… then we have a conundrum on our hands.
Coffee or smoothie?
Coffee. No elaboration needed.
Early riser or night owl?
Early riser. Once in a while I can hang late, but no matter what time I go to bed, I am up early. It’s been embedded in me since I was a young child. My dad used to wake my siblings and I up early on the weekend to start our chores. To this day, he’ll still call me at 6:30 in the morning. I sometimes answer in a panic like something terrible may have happened, only to hear him say, “I’m just checking in.”
Beach or mountains?
I love both but if I have to pick, it’s the beach. There’s nothing better than getting beaten down by the sun, jumping into the ocean to cool off, and repeating that process for 8 hours a day.
Winter or fall?
Tough one. For me, it’s all about golf… you can still play golf in the fall in WNY – but in the winter you get to travel south for it. I’m torn.
