Monday Motivator: Meet Newlyweds Brett and Erin
We’ve said it before, and we’ll say it again. Sweating is better together. This week’s Monday Motivators – and newlyweds – are the ultimate exemplification of this statement. Read on to hear Brett and Erin sweat for their wedding, how their routine has changed post wedding (if at all!) and hhow they help each other stay motivated.
Tell us a little bit about yourselves.
Brett: I’m a born and raised WNYer. I’ve been told I have a tendency of always telling strangers why Buffalo is the best. By day I’m a financial planner and try to help empower people to get the most out of their lives. At night you can usually find me holding onto the dream and playing bar league hockey somewhere around town.
Erin: I’m originally from Syracuse, and moved to Buffalo 5 years ago for graduate school. Brett and I met at Mister Goodbar on Elmwood about a month into living here, and the rest is history! I’m a physical therapist for Kaleida Health, and love helping people reach their personal goals.
What does #RevLife mean to you?
Brett: Rev has an infectious energy and certain sense of community that is not always easy to come by. Workouts definitely have a way of helping you grow beyond your comfort zone and it’s a friendly and supportive group of people to sweat alongside.
Erin: A week into taking classes at Rev I knew that I had found a really special place. I instantly found the workouts to be challenging and innovative, but I was most impressed by the instructors. They were not only knowledgeable about what they were teaching, but made you feel immediately welcome, and took the time to really learn who you were.
We all get in the zone in different ways. Where does your head go during a workout?
Brett: I try to make a conscious effort of being present and in tune with the feeling of really pushing myself and getting stronger. Otherwise it’s usually a mix of telling myself not to pass out and going through different Bills playoff scenarios.
Erin: I love music, so this definitely helps motivate me during workouts. I usually try to focus on the beats, take in the instructors motivation, and remind myself what my end goal is- to create and sustain a healthy lifestyle.
What’s your favorite class at Rev?
Brett: Tough call. Each class brings its own personality and challenges you in different ways. If I had to pick it has to be RevShred. David has a special way of making workouts the perfect mix of fresh, engaging, and tortuous.
Erin: I usually attend a good mix of classes, but a few of my favorites are RevShred, TRX, and Rev+Total Body.
What did your workout routine look like leading up to your wedding? Has it changed since?
Brett: I’ve played sports my whole life and always thought I was in decent shape. This past year I definitely made an effort to come to more classes consistently leading up to the big day and am really glad I did. Once you make it part of your routine there’s no turning back. We still workout the same amount – just enjoy more pizza and beers now.
Erin: Leading up to the big day, my workout routine focused around Rev classes, running, and yoga. I tried to switch it up throughout the week to keep me motivated and to avoid burnout from one specific style of workout. And I would agree with Brett … more pizza and beer 🙂
How do you help each other stay motivated to work out?
Both: Working out together definitely helps in the accountability department. It’s fun to have someone there alongside to challenge you and have the sense of growing stronger together.
What’s your favorite post workout meal/snack, and who’s doing the cooking?
Brett: Big smoothie guy. Erin is definitely the better cook, unless we’re making nachos which I specialize in.
Erin: I won’t lie, leading up to our wedding my main focus wasn’t necessarily on cooking. I really got into making big salads with a ton of veggies, and relying on prepared meal services for convenience. My goal for the future is to become more comfortable in the kitchen!
