Monday Motivators, Sibling Edition: Meet Liz and Dennis

Not only are these sibling Monday Motivators just all-around wonderful people, but Liz and Dennis are only a year and a day apart (so cool!) and totally inspiring with their sweat routines. They make self care a priority, and along with it get to spend time with family (each other) which is extra-important, and convenient when schedules crazy! Read on to get your week kicked off with a serious dose of their awesomeness.

Tell us a little bit about yourself.

Dennis: I enjoy making (drawing, painting) and learning about art. An Art teacher for fourteen years-I currently teach k-8th grade Art at West Hertel Academy. I like to share my passion for the arts with family and friends.

Liz: I am originally from Buffalo, I went to Dyouville college for nursing and I work at Mercy Hospital as an ER nurse. I also have lived in Colorado twice in the last 3 years as a travel nurse which was such an amazing experience. I met so many wonderful people along the way. Even when I was living in Colorado I really missed my Rev family and friends. As soon as I got home both times I went back to Rev right away!

What does #RevLife mean to you?

Dennis: Creating a balance between work and fitness. Striving to be your best self no matter what obstacles or challenges you may be facing professionally or personally. Having the support of like minded individuals, like the rev team, to push you physically and mentally. Self-care.

Liz: I  think as a healthcare worker you have a strong since of  camaraderie because you really depend on one another to get through a lot of difficult and emotional situations. I love going to Revolution because of the strong since of camaraderie I feel there! I have been going to Rev since the carriage house days and its been so cool to see how much it has grown over the years. Rev life for me is my happy place where I can put a bad night at work behind me and get it out in class. I find myself smiling during a class even if the class is kicking my butt because of all the positive motivation you get from the people around you and from the instructors.

We all get in the zone in different ways. Where does your head go during a workout?

Dennis: I like the idea of leaving the day’s stressors on the exercise mat or bike; working out those frustrations. Also, focusing on the idea that your health is a gift-push yourself to perform to the best of your ability. You feel 100 percent by the end of your workout.

What’s your favorite class and/or thing about Personal Training at Rev?

Dennis: I like the new RevShred, it’s been a great challenge for me. Training with David is awesome. David really knows his clients abilities better than they do. He is conscientious about his client’s form and health/injury concerns. Recently he has been helping me with breathing properly.

Liz: My favorite rev classes are RevShred, RevFit and RevRow+Strength. It’s really hard to pick just  one! I love personal training with David I really look forward to it every week, although he kills you. But its so worth it!

What’s your favorite meal/snack to eat after a tough workout?

Dennis: Casin protein shake with strawberry, banana, blueberries and peanut butter.

Liz: My favorite snack after a workout would  have to be a smoothie – vanilla protein, strawberries , bananas and peanut butter.

What’s the best thing about working out with your brother/sister?

Dennis: It’s a great way to stay connected as siblings, when our routines for work keep us out-of-touch. We can reconnect at a Rev class and sometimes go for a post-workout meal on Hertel Ave.

Liz: My brother and I are very close in age. We are actually are a year and a day apart, and we have always had the same group of friends growing up and  ran track in high school together, so I feel we have always motivated each other.

How do you help each other stay accountable for your workouts?

Dennis: Liz and I both value making time to exercise. When one of us feels like they’re falling off fitness-wise, we schedule to meet for a Rev class or a hike at Chestnut Ridge.

Liz:  I feel we keep each other accountable when it comes to working out. I know if he signs up for a class I will go to it as well. Its also a nice way to keep in touch throughout the week. He is a teacher so  he works days and i work overnights.

Tacos or pizza?

Dennis: Pizza, Thursday nights are usually pizza nights … I can make a pretty healthy pizza.

Liz: I prefer tacos to pizza.

Coffee or smoothie?

Dennis: Coffee is a great reward after a morning workout.

Liz: Coffee for sure!

Early riser or night owl?

Dennis: Early riser.

Liz: Night owl.

Beach or mountains?

Dennis: Beach. Love the sun, sand and water.

Liz: I love the mountains! When Dennis came to visit me in Colorado I  took him up his first mountain! It was so cool to see his reaction when you reach that summit for the first time.

Spring or summer?

Dennis: Summer! Buffalo summers are the best.

Liz: I love the summers.
