Monday Motivator: Meet Mary

Our go-to contact at Haven House, Mary is this week’s Monday Motivator! She’s a rockstar in all aspects of life – from her inspiring career as a Children’s Counselor at Child & Family Services, Haven House, to being dog mom to not one – but three pups! Oh, and she just crushes it at Rev – multiple times a week! Read on to see why we thing she’s so very deserving of this week’s post.

Tell us a little bit about yourself.

I was born and raised in Buffalo, and currently live in North Buffalo. I went to Medaille for both my undergraduate and graduate studies. I have my Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice with a minor in Psychology. And I have just recently finished my course work and will be graduating in a few weeks with my Master’s in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. I currently work for Child & Family Services at Haven House as the Children’s Counselor (which is the most rewarding job in the world!). I play a lot of softball year round, and I also enjoy golfing! I have the most incredible family and friends, and I am a crazy dog mom to three pups: Pepper, Sage, and Samson.

We all get in the zone in different ways. Where does your head go during class?

Working out is one of my greatest stress relievers! And with being on-the-go 24/7 I try to clear my mind completely and just focus on the music, my form, and the reps I’m getting in. Not to mention, all of the instructors are great at keeping me focused on improving myself with each workout.

What’s your favorite class format at Rev (RevRide, IndoRow, etc.) and why?

My favorite class format is RevRide and Trx! I love RevRide because your body is constantly changing positions, resistance, and intensity. And you don’t realize how much you’re doing until you get off the bike and you can’t move! I also love TRX (minus when Mandy adds burpees!) because it’s a great way to build your strength and really focus on your form and body mechanics.

What’s your favorite meal/snack to eat after a tough class?

After a workout I can always go for a juice from Ashker’s, a smoothie bowl from Squeeze, or a prepared meal from the Co-op!

What’s your favorite dinner spot in Buffalo?

My favorite dinner spot is honestly my family’s house! I miss having regular dinners with my family, so whenever I get the chance to now I jump at the opportunity. (Thanks for feeding me, Mom!)

If you could choose your superpower, what would it be?

Being able to stop time, so I can be on time! I’m infamous for always being late. Or being able to make beer have no calories. (I blame my Irish genes.)

Who would play you in the movie version of your life?

I would love to say Jennifer Lawrence or Emma Stone!
