Monday Motivator: Meet Derek
When you get to your spin bike and you wonder “how the heck is this seat so high” … chances are it was this week’s super awesome (and super tall!) Monday Motivator, Derek. Hitting up Rev pretty much daily, his top sweat choices right now include RevRow Strength and RevMvmt. Check out his story below.
What’s your story?
I’m originally a south towns guy now living in the city for the last decade +. I work for Trove Data… We are one of the best startups in town and I lead a group of amazing software engineers. I also do some coding and software development as time permits! Although frustrating most of the time, I’m a Sabres and Bills season ticket holder just waiting for our time to shine. Outside of the Gym, Work and Sports I enjoy visiting the Fam, Skiing, Golf, traveling to Random Cities and a great Beer!
What does #RevLife mean to you?
RevLife is great! I started with a simple trial and now it has become part of my daily routine. The class selection, schedule flexibility and the people I’ve met make it easy to come back. Even when I have a down day or feel fatigued, there is always someone sitting next to me I can look at for extra motivation!
We all get in the zone in different ways. Where does your head go during class?
Depending on the time of day and class it changes day to day! During spinning I’m constantly looking back at the clock! I get very upset if it’s covered by the curtain or if I can’t see it from the back corner… Morning classes get me mentally and physically motivated the day. Bettering myself and hitting goals in the evening are very rewarding.
What’s your favorite class format at Rev (RevRide, IndoRow, etc.) and why?
RevRow is currently on the top of my list right now. Working with partners, mixing in some weightlifting and the final challenge get my competitive juices flowing a bit. Honorable mention to Emily and the Mvmt class!
What’s your favorite dinner spot in Buffalo?
I absolutely love going out to eat! I’m all about trying new places, hitting up local dives and the occasional fine dining experience. If I had to choose one, it would be Sea Bar. That Beef on Weck Roll would be my final meal!
Shout out to the Steak Sando from Brunner’s Tavern and my new addiction to Fresh Catch Poke.
If you could choose your superpower, what would it be?
It would be a toss-up between being a Healer or Telekinesis. Nothing would be better than having the ability to help and heal people! And Telekinesis is pretty badass.
Who would play you in the movie version of your life?
Nick Cage – He’s the best.
