Monday Motivator: Meet Kelly
Born and bred in Buffalo, Kelly is bringing a huge dose of Monday Motivation to our week. She’s a big fan of Rev’s half and half classes for the ultimate combo of strength and cardio and any class on the rower. (Check out RevRow+ Strength and Indo-Row!) She rounds out her routine with boxing, pilates, yoga and running (whew!) and is looking forward to hitting the pavement for her third half marathon this year. Read on to read about this kick-ass Buffalonian below!
Tell us a little bit about yourself.
I’m born and raised in Buffalo, a City Honors alum (along with a good handful of other Rev-goers!) and went to UB for my undergraduate and graduate studies. I have my Masters in Educational Psychology and Quantitative Methods and I have been working for Big Brothers Big Sisters for 10 years and am currently a Supervisor there. I bartend a couple nights a week downtown at Pizza Plant Canalside. I have an amazing crew of friends and family and am a lucky aunt to my beautiful niece and nephew who live in Great Neck, Long Island so I try to get out there to visit regularly.
What does #RevLife mean to you?
To me #RevLife means community and pushing boundaries. Coming to Rev classes has really helped me step outside of my comfort zone; whether it is opening myself up and meeting new people or trying new workouts and pushing the limits of what I think my body can do. The amount of giving back to the community that Rev does is really motivating and pushes me to do the same which gives a bigger meaning to working out here!
We all get in the zone in different ways. Where does your head go during class?
For me, working out clears my mind, so usually I try to just focus on the music and counting reps so I stay on track! Depending on the workout though, I may be concentrating on not falling off of the stepper or wondering, “am I doing this right?!”
What’s your favorite class format at Rev (RevRide, IndoRow, etc.) and why?
My favorite class format are the half and half classes like Rev+TotalBody or RevRow+Strength. They get the cardio in there, making your heart beat like crazy and then switch it up to strength training and different weight moves which really keeps me on my toes and is never boring! I am getting more into IndoRow now too which gets you on and off the rower and really works you out.
How do you like to stay active outside of class?
I have been going to boxing, pilates, and yoga classes lately and love to ride my bike around the city. Once this crazy Buffalo winter lightens up, I run outside a lot and try to participate in as many races (meaning after parties!) as I can. I am training for my third half marathon in September!
What’s your favorite meal/snack to eat after a tough class?
I have been terrible about cooking for myself, so I really love grabbing the spicy chicken quinoa bowl from Newbury, the thai peanut bowl from the Lexington Co-op, or the coffee smoothie from Squeeze!
What’s your favorite dinner spot in Buffalo?
I definitely can’t narrow it to one so some favs are Left Bank, Nine Eleven Tavern, Trattoria Aroma, Taste of Siam, or Joe’s Deli. I will gladly eat anywhere though!
If you could choose your superpower, what would it be?
Turning water into wine.
