Monday Motivator: Meet Allison

We’re in the holiday home stretch, RevFam! If you’re in need of a little extra motivation this week among all the cookies and nog and treats, look no further than Allison. She’s a runner at heart, stayin’ fit with her Rev workouts when she can’t get outside. And she carries a koozie with her at all times … that’s reason alone to read on and discover  her story!

Tell us a little bit about yourself.

Running and staying fit have always been passions of mine. Not only do I enjoy it and the competitive nature of it, but it also allows me to enjoy great food/drink while fitting in my clothes and keeping stress at bay.  It’s the consistency aspect that has been a challenge over the years as it quickly falls down the daily priority list when things get really busy or the weather is not the best for running outside. Rev has absolutely helped me by becoming more consistent in the gym and when I do get out for a run, I feel great! Outside of working out, Buffalo has been home for me since 2011 and I couldn’t be happier about the decision to come back.  I am a dog-mom to a large 80+lb lapdog, Bruce, and I work for a local higher education software company.

How do you stay motivated to come to class, especially on days when you’re just not feeling it?

Having to sign up beforehand and schedule my workouts in advance is a huge help.  If I’m signed up, I’ll definitely be there–except for the occasional unexpected work commitment that pops up and prevents me from following through from time-to-time. Even if I don’t feel like going, I know I’ll enjoy it while I’m there and be happy that I did it after the workout is done. This mental game and knowing there’s a consequence to not showing is the perfect mix for making it be a priority.

What are some little ways you stay active every day?

Unfortunately, I work behind a desk all day so this is a challenge during the work hours.  If there is time to take a walk during the day, I try to do so, but this is not always realistic. This is another reason why making sure I get to the gym or get a run in is so important.

What song gets you totally pumped during class?

I’m terrible at knowing artists or songs so following the instructors on Spotify has been huge for figuring out what songs I love during a class. I even listen to their playlists during runs when I’m not at the gym. When not working out, I’m a country girl at heart. Current obsessions on Amazon Music are the Turnpike Troubadours and Sturgill Simpson.

Who are your Rev ride-or-dies? (Workout buddies who keep you accountable.)

My friend, Sarah, is the one who got me to try Rev in the first place, which was huge. Teach and Derek are great friends outside of the gym and when we are back-row buddies in evening spin, it makes it even better.

What’s something random you always have in your gym bag?

– Maybe not always in my gym bag, but I always carry a koozie! You never know when an opportunity for a good time is going to strike so I like to be prepared and when it’s not wrapped around a favorite IPA, it’s a handy sunglasses and/or cellphone protector.

​Give us two truths and a lie!​

–  I’m a picky eater.

–  I ran in the Olympic Trials.

– I’m afraid of rain/thunder storms.
