Monday Motivator: Meet Sarah & Colleen

Catch some crazy-good Monday Motivator vibes from besties Sarah and Colleen. They keep each other accountable for working out - and brunching it out  - after! Pretty much inseparable, they sweat together, bike to work together and even carpool to Rev together. Find out why sweating together really is better, in their fun Q&A below.

1. Give us a quick background on yourself.
Colleen: I moved to Buffalo from Ann Arbor, Michigan just about 2 years ago to work for Campus Labs. That’s where I met Sarah! Not only is she a great friend and motivator, she is an exceptional Buffalo ambassador. I am happy to call Elmwood home and love to cook and try new recipes in my tiny apartment. Over the past years I have grown to love this city and becoming a part of the Rev community has definitely played an important role in that. I love this positive, supportive community of folks who work their butts off!
Sarah: I’m a Syracuse native, but have long considered Buffalo home – I am over-the-top in love with this city. I live on the west side with my husband and our pit bull, where we’re painstakingly renovating a 117-year-old home (we haven’t had a fully functioning kitchen for almost two years!). As a former college athlete, I’ve struggled with fitness since graduation, since it was no longer scheduled or done as part of a team, but Rev has certainly fixed that problem. The last six months have been so much more enjoyable and successful than anything else I’ve done, so huge props to Colleen for suggesting we "give it a try!"

2. Describe your best workout ever in just three words.
Colleen: Maxed-out and sweaty.
Sarah: Sweating. To. NSYNC. (I’ve been loving the boy band classes!)

3. What song(s) are you obsessed with right now?
Colleen: I love Latin pop and reggaetón in the summer. Right now there is a lot of Chantaje by Shakira ft. Maluma, and Hasta el Amanecer by Nicky Jam in my life.
Sarah: Colleen is way hipper than I am – I have no idea what any of that is. Honest answer? I practically have Harry Styles’ new album on repeat at work.  I’m also super obsessed with Bruno Mars.

4. Any healthy habits to start/end your day?
Colleen: If I’m not just barely rolling out of bed before Sarah picks me up for a morning Rev class, I start my day by turning on NPR, drinking a big glass of water and making a pour over. In the evenings I am a chamomile tea addict.
Sarah: Rev on many mornings! Colleen and I often bike into the office, which is always a nice way to start and end the work day. 

5. How do you help keep each other motivated to work out?
Colleen: I’m not going to lie, there are moments when we’re on our way home from work and say “Man, what if we just stopped and did happy hour downtown instead of working out?” However, in the end we always show up and hold each other accountable because we know how good it feels after a class. We know we can still make time for patio drinks and Sunday bloody marys after we get our classes in.
Sarah: A gentle reminder about the bloody marys we’ll be consuming that weekend usually does the trick. Having a workout buddy, in general, does the job for me. If I know Colleen is waiting for me to pick her up for class, then that means I have to peel myself out of bed and get there! 

6. Favorite workout on the bike - hills, sprints, isolations or tap backs?
Colleen: I’m really learning to love hills. "Resistance is your friend," as Lauren would say!
Sarah: Tap back/pushups, for sure. It definitely taps into my competitive side – I refuse to fall behind the instructor!

 7. Buffalo food truck you can't live without?
Colleen: Lloyd is of course a classic. I also like O.G. Woodfire – it’s hard to beat a good pizza.
Sarah: I had a meal from Lomo Lomo that changed my life. Also a huge fan of the veggie dog from Frank and the fish tacos from Lloyd.


Monday Motivator: Meet Jess

Meet this week's Monday Motivator - Jess! A Buffalo babe through and through, she's obsessed with donuts, her adorable pup Tony, and Rev! Catch her sweatin' up a storm on the bikes, or pushing through some major strength moves on the TRX multiple times a week. She keeps her routine balanced ... maybe that's so she can enjoy all the tacos, pierogi and donuts mentioned below! (We feel ya girl!)


1. Give us a quick background on yourself.
Born on the East Side; where all the Polish people used to reside. Raised in Cheektowaga; where all the Polish people eventually moved to. Rented in Elmwood/Allentown (during/after college) for about 9 years and currently living in North Buffalo with my 2 boyfriends (one is a tad furrier).

Many people think they have seen me before which is more than likely true. (You probably saw me slaving at Urban Outfitters or drinking at The Pink – I have moved on from both, sadly). My fitness journey actually began once I quit my retail job and I also picked up a hobby of calligraphy (@hand_and_ink) – shameless plug, get at me RevBrides!

3. What song(s) are you obsessed with right now?

4. Any healthy habits to start/end your day?
Cuddling and kissing the love of my life.  His name is Tony, he's French, and he walks on 4 legs. (Ok, my obsession could be slightly unhealthy but the love isn’t!) Oh, and lemon water every morning.

5. Any indulgences you just can't live without?
DOUGHNUTS – if you tell me you ‘donut’ like them, you are lying (to me or yourself).

6. Favorite workout on the bike - hills, sprints, isolations or tap backs?​

7. Buffalo food truck you can't live without?
Lloyds – tacos are life.
Ru’s Pierogi is a close runner up (I am 100% Polish and pierogies are pretty much the Polish taco).


Monday Motivators: Meet Erin

This adorable new mom (with another on the way!) is giving us alll the Monday Motivator feels. Erin balances a delicate ecosystem that is her 8-month old, full time job in law enforcement, awesome hubby and baby-to-be, with fitness goals that have her getting her sweat on 4x/week. Find out how she does it all below.

1. Give us a quick background on yourself.
I have an 8 month old son, Jack, and another little one on the way in November. I work in law enforcement which keeps me on my toes. My husband and I both work full-time so it's very important to us to make sure we plan out our workout schedules well in advance. I try to get to Rev four times a week, but sometimes Jack (and life) doesn't allow for it!

2. Describe your best workout ever in just three words.
TRX and Tots! The added 20+lbs from my son was a total game changer.

3. What song(s) are you obsessed with right now?
You really want to know?  I'm an old soul and lately cannot stop listening to John Denver (I blame the pregnancy hormones).

​4. Any healthy habits to start/end your day?
I start and end my day with Jack who is always watching so I make sure to eat healthy and stay active.  Jack is now eating solid foods so it's important to my husband and I to incorporate fruits and vegetables into his routine as well as our own.

5. Any indulgences you just can't live without?
All things Bravo. And I am a true crime addict! Not only do I work in the field but you can usually find me with my office door shut, listening to the "My Favorite Murder" podcast.

6. Favorite workout on the bike - hills, sprints, isolations or tap backs?​
I love a good hill! There is no better feeling than reaching the top.

7. Buffalo food truck you can't live without?
I am dying to try the Healthy Scratch.


Monday Motivator: Meet Emily

It's a rainy start to the week, so let's channel our own inner-Californian and learn more about today's Monday Motivator, Emily. She moved all the way across the country to attend nursing school in Buffalo. She's adjusted very well to her new surroundings here with the help of her nursing school friends, Lululemon and of course, the ever-welcoming clients at Rev.

1. Give us a quick background on yourself.

I was raised in San Diego, CA for majority of my life, but was interestingly enough born in Toronto, ON. After finishing up my first degree at the University of Arizona, I moved to Buffalo, NY to attend nursing school at D'Youville College and have been here for a little over a year now. I moved alone and knew no one before my move, but have come to love Buffalo enough to call it home and have met friends I would consider family. I work as a nurse assistant at Sister's of Charity Hospital and also work at lululemon athletica, which originally introduced rev to me! I am so grateful to be part of such a wonderful community at rev that has such a positive impact on me both mentally and physically. Colleen, Amanda, and all of the rev community has welcomed me with open arms and has made my across the country transition, so much easier.

2. Describe your best workout in three words. 

Confidence. Empowering. Enlightened.

Exercise gives me a sense of accomplishment and allows me to see the lengths at what my body can go to. It gives me strength in all aspects of my life.   
3. What song(s) are you obsessed with right now?

I am such a sucker for any EDM or tropical house music, especially in the gym. My main baes are Flume and Kygo, but that totally varies. You'll find me occasionally Shazaming some of the girls’ music during rev classes because they play the BEST music! Currently I'm obsessed with Fire (Paris Blohm Remix) by 3LAU, Neonheart, & Paris Blohm and Your Shirt by Chelsea Cutler.

4. Any healthy habits to start your day?
Generally the first thing I do when I wake up is make my bed, light up my diffuser in my room, make a cup of tea, pack up my bag for rev, and head on over for an early morning spin class (love me some 5:45am spin). After spin I go straight to work at the hospital.

5. Any indulgences you can't live without?

At the end of the day and right before bed, squeezing in some Netflix time is essential (& maybe some Halotop too).

6. Favorite workout on the bike? Sprints, hills, isolations or tap backs?

Call me crazy but my favorite workout on the bike are sprints. Although at the end of the workout, I have a love for all of them. 

7. Favorite Buffalo food truck?
Okay so I still have not been to any food truck Tuesday events (currently on summer 2017 bucket list), but I have been to Llyods, which was amazing, and I've been dying to try The Healthy Scratch.
