Monday Motivator: Meet Kirstin

What better way to start the day than with this busy mom of two, who brings some serious dedication to the Monday Motivator table. Meet Kristin, our rockstar of the week. She's got a 5 year old and an 8 year old - who keep her busy beyond belief. You'll find her crushing it on the bikes and TRX before the sun (and kids) come up, almost every morning of the week. Excuses don't exist in Kristin's world - she gets it D.O.N.E.

1. Give us a quick background on yourself.
I am married with 2 amazing children, 5 and 8 years old. After a lengthy stint as a stay-at-home mom, my youngest started kindergarten this year and I started working at my kids' school. Between work, working out, and my kids' constant activities, there is always something going on, which works out great for me because i'm either insanely busy or bored out of my mind. There is no in-between. Sometimes I think I'm a 70-year-old woman at heart, considering what little free time I can find I love to fill with cooking, baking, and crocheting! Although my family and I lead and very active and healthy lifestyle, I was never able to stay super into working out until I was introduced to Rev. Everything about this place is motivating, from the workouts to the instructors!

2. Describe your best workout ever in just three words.
Hurts so good.

3. What song(s) are you obsessed with right now?
Don't Let Me Down - Chainsmokers
I Hate U, I Love U - Gnash
Cleopatra - The Lumineers

4. Is there a mantra that motivates you?
Fitness is therapy!

5. Any healthy habits to start/end your day?
5:45am spin and/or TRX is my favorite way to start the day. Getting up before 5am isn't always my favorite, but I always leave feeling better then when I walked in, and it puts me in a great frame of mind for the rest of the day. Plus, then I can end my day relaxing and having a drink and not feel bad!

6. Favorite move on the TRX?
Pistol squats! They are such a great challenge and any move that works balance and blasts your whole lower body is a win.

7. Favorite Buffalo Food Truck?
I will admit, I don't know many. I love to cook so I don't frequent food trucks, but I had Lloyd's once and it was great!

8.This or that:
Rosé or margaritas? If I had to pick, I guess margaritas. If you put a drink in my hand it will not go to waste, but I would definitely gravitate more towards vodka and bourbon!
Hip hop, Pop, Oldies or EDM for spinning? I love variety, just so long as that variety doesn't include any country music!
Tap backs or isolations? Isolations are my all time favorite spinning move. I can't get enough of them!

Monday Motivator: Meet Rose

This morning we are bringing you our youngest Monday Motivator yet, Rose! A student athlete at Buff Sem, Rose started coming to Rev with her mom Whitney this summer and decided to keep her streak going once school started back up in September. She is always taking her TRX moves to the next level, whether going for the more challenging modification or adding in that extra jump. We hope she can be a motivation to high school girls everywhere - we certainly wish we had her dedication and drive to stay healthy when we were her age!

1. Give us a quick background on yourself.
I have always played sports and liked being active. I played hockey for 10 years and I also played soccer and lacrosse in elementary school. Now I am a junior at Buffalo Seminary and I play field hockey, squash and lacrosse. I started coming to Rev over the summer with my mom to cross train for squash. It's not always easy getting up so early before school, but it's worth it.

2. Describe your best workout ever in just three words.
Fun. Relaxing. Motivating.

3. What song(s) are you obsessed with right now?
At moment I like Give It To Me Baby by Rick James.

4. Is there a mantra that motivates you?
"There are those who look at things the way they are, and ask why... I dream of things that never were, and ask why not?"- RFK

5. Any healthy habits to start/end your day?
Besides going to spinning, I like to start my day with a big fruit smoothie. I usually end up finishing my day studying, if that counts as a healthy habit.

6. Favorite move on the TRX?
Chest press or side planks on a good day.

7. Favorite Buffalo Food Truck?
Which ever one has the best vegan option!

This or that:
Hip-hop, Pop, Oldies or EDM for spinning? Hip-hop.
Tap backs or isolations? Both
Morning workouts or evening workouts? I like them equally. The morning workout wakes me up and the evening classes are relaxing for me after school and practice.

Monday Motivators: Meet Joann

Don't let this rainy Monday get you down! We've got Joanne, kick-starting the week with some Monday Motivation for y'all. Not only does she rise and Rev with us a few mornings a week, but she just so happens to run the marketing program at the Lexington Co-op - and has done so for 14 years! 1. Give us a quick background on yourself.

I’m a tried and true Buffalonian. Owned a business on Elmwood for 15 years, co-wrote a book on cleansing, now I’m working at the Lexington Co-op as their Marketing Manager for the last 14 years. I’m married to Gary Robb, have a son Finn in college at RIT. Love traveling, cooking for family and friends, swimming, art openings and rearranging our furniture.

2. Describe your best workout ever in just three words.
Frustrating. Inspiring. Ass-kicking.

3. What song(s) are you obsessed with right now?
I’m bad with names and lyrics but love the Afro- Celt song Colleen plays - it's intense matched up with her hill climbing - has you doing more than you can imagine. Also the Bob Marley “Three Little Birds” makes me happy and set me on a reggae journey this summer.

4. Is there a mantra that motivates you?
Do what’s in your heart. (My friend Samantha’s saying.)

5. Any healthy habits to start/end your day?
Exercise is a great one to start! I try to eat seasonal, local and organic foods. Drink lots of water. Stay in the moment. Show gratitude. Get enough sleep.

6. Favorite move on the TRX?
The one where you cross your leg back as you squat  - cross balance lunge. Stretches you from head to toe.

7. Favorite Buffalo Food Truck?
Lomo Lomo

This or that:
Rosé or margaritas? Rose and Gin and tonics.
Hip hop, Pop, Oldies or EDM for spinning? Love a great blend.
Tap backs or isolations? Tap backs are a new favorite. Challenging to do on both sides.

The Un-Recipe Recipe Series: Mandy's Power Protein Dressing

You know all the ways we like to sweat. But what is the RevTeam eating to fuel our bodies through all that physical activity? We'll be sharing some of our favorite meals and snacks more regularly, with easy to follow "un-recipes." This is how we're "cooking" - and we're betting you are too!

Mandy loves creamy salad dressing, but not the icky nutrition stats of most store-bought brands. However, this recipe is a super-healthy alternative! A little more than 1/2 cup of dressing boasts 146 calories, 8 carbs, 6g fat and 14g of protein. Compare that to two tablespoons of brand name ranch dressing with 140 calories, 2g carbs, 14g fat and 1g protein! You can drench your salad in 4x as much of the homemade dressing and roughly even out the number of calories between the two!

Mandy's Power Protein Dressing
1/2 C 0% plain Greek yogurt
2 TBSP Belgioioso Whole Milk ricotta
1 TSP spices (She used Penzey's Brady Street Cheese Sprinkle)
Salt & Pepper to taste
Secret ingredient: 1/2 TBSP of Politely Spicy Cheeky Monkey tomato dipping oil

Monday Motivators: Meet Sara & Tessa

Heeeeeey Monday! This week's dose of Monday goodness is brought to you by not one, but two motivators - Sara and Tessa! These sisters get their fitness on by rowing, spinning and TRXing at our RevExpress location. They're never at a loss for positive energy - if one of 'em isn't feeling up to a workout, the other helps keep them on track. And with the mantra Tessa gave us in the Q&A below ("You better work bitch ..." by Ms. Britney Spears) you know they mean business!

FullSizeRender (42)

1. Give us a quick background on yourself.

Sara: After gaining over 70 pounds while pregnant with my daughter last year I was determined to loose the weight ASAP. Major lack of sleep and exhaustion left me little motivation to work out. I am thankful for my sister who motivated me to go for a walk or take a class even when I didn't think I could pull myself off the couch! I am happy that she did because I have lost all the weight and can fit back into my old clothes! I am a much happier person and better mother when I work out and make a little time for myself.
Tessa: I am an ICU nurse at ECMC. Working in a hospital full time is enough to motivate me to keep myself as healthy and happy as possible. This past year I got married, built a house with my husband and became an aunt for the first time! I have been working out and active most of my life but didn't start enjoying working out until I started taking workout classes.

2. Describe your best workout ever in just three words.
Sara: Sore for days!
Tessa: Rachel's. Play. List.

3. What song(s) are you obsessed with right now?
Sarah: Chain Smokers - Closer and Brittany Spears - Make Me
Tessa: Kiiara - Gold and Tinie Tempah - Girls Like

4. Is there a mantra that motivates you?
Sara: What doesn't kill you makes you stronger!
Tessa: "You better work bitch." - Britney Spears

5. Any healthy habits to start/end your day?
Sara: I usually start my day with a smoothie and daily vitamins.
Tessa: On my days off of work I start my day with a workout. To end my day I take my vitamins and make sure I get enough sleep!

6. Favorite move on the TRX?
Sara: Squats.
Tessa: Pushups.

7. Favorite Buffalo Food Truck?
Sara: Lloyds!
Tessa: I have not tried any food trucks yet. But the grilled cheese one is on my list!

8. How do you help keep each other motivated?
Sara: If I'm feeling lazy or too tired Tessa always motivates me to work out and vise versa. One of us is always up to workout ... even it that means getting up early on a Saturday morning to make it to a class.
Tessa: Reminding each other that Summer and bikinis or Holidays and parties are around the corner! And a little caffeine never hurts.

9. This or that?
Rosé or margaritas: Margs! (Sara) Definitely lime margaritas! (Tessa)
Hip-hop, Pop, Oldies or EDM for spinning: Hip-hop (Sara) EDM (Tessa)
Tap backs or isolations: Tap back! (Sara) EDM (Tessa)

1. Give us a quick background on yourself.

As a lifelong Buffalonian, I absolutely love this city and everything that it has to offer! Currently, you can usually find me crushing the biology and psychology game at Canisius College (2 years down, 2 to go), providing excellent customer service at the UPS Store on Elmwood, sitting pensively at a coffee shop pondering “the rest of my life”, or, most importantly, out sailing on Lake Erie with my family and friends. In terms of my fitness journey, I really only started working out regularly about seven months ago to help relieve stress and to get some energy back into my body after recovering from a wicked case of mono. However, my life at Rev started back in June when I decided to show up one day and just never left because a.) I fell in love with sunrises while driving here b.) why would you leave?! c.) #WillSpin4(almond)IceCream

2. Describe your BWE (best workout ever) in three words.
Embrace the shake!

3. What song(s) are you obsessed with right now?
-Closer (ft. Halsey) by The Chainsmokers
-Family Affair by Mary J. Blige
-Sucker for Pain by Lil Wayne, Wiz Khalifa & Imagine Dragons w/ Logic & Ty Dolla $ign ft X Ambassadors

-"My mission in life is not merely to survive, but to thrive; and to do so with some passion, some compassion, some humor, and some style.” – Maya Angelou

-“Actually, can you make that two large coffees? One for now and one for later.” –Andrea Kraft

5. Any healthy habits to start/end your day?
My ~ideal~ daily health routine: double spin at Rev, all of the fruit & veggie packed smoothies for breakfast, and working on my commitment to being a vegan throughout the day (I’m about 95% of the way there…).

6. Favorite move on the TRX?
Not quite sure of the name, but that one-leg-suspended-handstand- ish move that Amanda incorporates into UpperBody!

7. Favorite Buffalo food truck?
Lloyd’s!

8. This or That?
Marg or rosé? Option C? Kombucha!? (...the 6 month countdown to the big 2-1 is real)
Hip-hop, oldies, pop or EDM for spin? Most definitely pop!
