Monday Motivator: Meet Gretchen

Meet our girl Gretchen, a Buffalo newcomer who found her way into our Rev community. We can always count on her for some great song requests and contagious enthusiasm during a class. Not only does she Rev with us at both locations, she also powers through some serious private training sessions with Aubree at Jada Blitz. Dedicated, strong, with a great personality - we love it!

1. Give us a quick background on yourself.
My fiancé and I moved here from Chicago, Illinois last October. I am a child development specialist and I accepted a position at Fisher-Price as a Sr. Child Researcher for the Babygear and Newborn product lines. We have two ginger tabby cats, Carter & Oliver who joined us on this adventure. They are the coolest. I am a Texas native and miss the sun and the south, but Buffalo has definitely won us over this summer, especially with all the fun (and free) activities offered at Canalside!

2. Describe your best workout ever in just three words.
Music. Friends. Dark.

3. What song(s) are you obsessed with right now?
Gold-Kiiara, Say It-Tory Lanez, Let it Be-Labrinth, Into You-Ariana Grande and then everything by Troye Sivan, Halsey, & Ruelle.

4. Is there a mantra that motivates you?
Fun is on the other side of Yes, so say Yes and figure it out later.

5. Any healthy habits to start/end your day?
I always wear my retainer at bedtime. #orthodontia

6. Favorite move on the TRX?
Triceps. They sting but in a good way?

This or that: Rosé or margaritas

Hip hop, Pop, Oldies or EDM for spinning
EDM. Hip-Hop and Pop are tied for 2nd,  but nothing compares to the EDM  beat drop and the corresponding change up on the bike.

Tap backs or isolations?
Tap backs WITH push-ups. It’s a huge confidence boost when everything is timed perfectly and you can match the beat and the instructor's pace.

Monday Motivators: Meet Laura (and Adrian!)

This mom of one (Adrian) with another on the way (!) busts her butt staying in shape and keeping up with her little guy. While her routine may have changed since she became a mom, she still makes time to sweat - making her a better mom, wife and human all around. Read on to learn more about Laura and her awesome fitness story.

1. Adrian turned one in April, what kinds of things is he getting into right now?
What doesn’t he get into these days?!  Adrian is so sweet and is a very active and busy boy. He  loves to run, play in dirt, climb over everything and make my heart stop from time to time with his relentless sense of adventure. He is a true toddler with endless energy!

2. Are there any songs that get baby/you all pumped up during class?
Even through the loud music, the baby is fast asleep from all the moving around in class. I love upbeat and loud music to start my day and wake me up. Lately I’ve been loving when Amanda mixes it up with some Girl Talk.

3. Giving into any cravings?
I feel exactly the same as I did with my first pregnancy and have been craving citrus-like drinks and juices. I usually start my day with orange juice and love lemon with my water throughout the day…nothing exciting, I know.

4. Boy, girl, or surprise? When is baby due?
This time around we chose to wait and find out, which has been very exciting.  I can’t wait to see if Adrian has a little brother or sister come early November.

5. How has what fitness and nutrition mean to you changed since Adrian was born? Has it changed again now that baby #2 is on the way?
I’ve always been into fitness and eating well with the occasional indulgence and I feel that I have kept that going since having Adrian and especially throughout this pregnancy. I used to work out like a phene and stressed if I couldn’t get a set number of workouts in each week. Gone are the days of taking 2 classes or even working out as much as I did before, but I’m okay with that. I’m much more relaxed now. My life has changed in so many wonderful ways, and I am comfortable adapting my health routine to the best of my abilities. If I can do some sort of exercise with Adrian (walking or running) or on my own by taking a class throughout the week, I’m happy. I like being active and I know once baby #2 arrives it will be even more difficult to find time to work out, but just like with Adrian, I found time. I’m a better mommy and wife when I find time to be active, so I will keep it going!
Fitness and nutrition are both important to my husband and I so we will definitely make that a priority with our children.  We love to cook and do adventurous things like hiking, running, biking and skiing …there is no doubt Adrian will be on skis by the time he is 3!

6. You are an early morning exerciser - did you have a hard time during your first trimester?
Yes, very much.  I was extremely exhausted during the first trimester so finding the energy to wake up and make it to a class was very difficult, especially those nights that Adrian was restless!

7. What advice do you have for fellow pregnant ladies who are worried about keeping up their fitness routines during pregnancy?
Every pregnancy is different, and I think it's very important for a pregnant woman to find a fitness routine that works for her and makes her happy. Whether that be taking a walk after dinner, taking a prenatal yoga class or being that woman that keeps up with the tap back push-ups on the bike, I think it's great when a mommy-to-be takes time for herself. The key is to listen to your body and don’t overdo it - you’re already doing something good for you and your baby! I firmly believe that fitting fitness into your pregnancy helps you feel good throughout those uncomfortable last few months and definitely through labor!

Monday Motivators: Meet Kara

Mornin' Monday! Meet Kara, this week's cheerful Monday Motivator. Between RevRides, TRX and a few Barre Centric classes every week, we're not sure when this girl finds time to rest! Catch some good vibes from Kara's Q&A below.

image1 (26)

1. Give us a quick background on yourself.
Growing up I was never into playing sports (and just never any good!) so I was never that particularly active. It wasn't until after college that I decided to be more active and make fitness a priority. I started off with a monthly membership at one of the bigger chain gyms in the area but only ever did group classes - I hate working out on my own. I started coming to Rev last summer right after they moved into their current location at the recommendation of a friend and have become hooked! I never knew workouts could be this awesome.

2. Describe your best workout ever in just three words.
Rev + Barre Combo!

3. What song(s) are you obsessed with right now?
Beck - WOW
Mumford & Sons - There Will Be Time
Anything by Tame Impala

4. Is there a mantra that motivates you?
Not a particular mantra, I just love knowing that if I have a long day at work I can come to Rev and sweat it out and instantly feel better.

5. Any healthy habits to start/end your day?
I try to drink a big glass of water as soon as I wake up and with the warmer weather I usually take my dog for a short walk. It helps wake both of us up!

6. Favorite move on the TRX?
It's hard to choose a favorite, I love how each move is challenging and you can modify them to make it more or less so.

7. Favorite Buffalo Food Truck?
My recent favorite has been Lomo Lomo and of course, Lloyd! I live down the street from the Taco Factory so I'm probably there more than I should be.

8. This or that?
Rosé or margaritas: White wine
Hip-hop, Pop, Oldies or EDM for spinning: Definitely hip-hop
Tap backs or isolations: Tap backs
