Monday Motivator: Meet Shannon

This Monday, find out more about our girl Shannon. She's well rounded in every aspect of life, with a perfect balance of fitness (cardio AND strength), music (Bruce Springsteen AND Taylor Swift) and fun (good cocktails AND a good book).

Shan

1. Tell us a little bit about your fitness journey.
I was always pretty active in high school and college then relied a little too much on an early 20s metabolism. My real wake-up call came a couple years ago when I couldn't fit into a bridesmaid dress a month before a wedding. Talk about a panic attack. Ever since then I've introduced cardio and strength training back into my workout routine - classes at Rev are the perfect combination of the two!

2. Describe your BWE (best workout ever) in just three words.
Tap. It. Back. (When I can stay on the beat!)

3. What song are you obsessed with right now?
Bruce Springsteen's cover of Purple Rain.

4. Is there a mantra that motivates you?
The atmosphere at Rev is a huge motivating factor for me.

5. What are two things you just can't start your day without?
The snooze button and coffee.

6. What's the healthiest thing in your fridge right now?
Lucky for me I just went grocery shopping so I can truthfully answer this: Greek yogurt and a whole lotta kale.

7. What's your favorite way to spend a sunny, spring Buffalo day?
I should say doing something active outdoors but let's be real - on a patio with a nice cocktail.

This or that? Choose one:

Cold pressed juice or coffee - coffee

Yoga pants or jeans - yoga pants all day

TRX or Spin - It honestly depends on the type of day I'm having but if I had to choose - TRX

Fun fact: We mentioned Shannon's love for Bruce Springstein above, but we didn't mention that she has been to a total of ten of his concerts!

Monday Motivators: Meet Erik

Good morning, Monday! Grab you coffee and get to know this rad guy - Erik - in the Monday Motivator Q&A below. He's a jack of all workout trades, fitting in spin classes, long-distance running and a variety of recreational sports 4-5 days a week, when he's not working long shifts and all-over-the-place-hours as a nurse. Eric crushes his RevRides hard - inspiring us to turn the tension up a few dials whenever we see him cranking away.

1. Tell us a little bit about your fitness journey.
I try my best to exercise 4-5 days a week. Whether it be body weight/dumbbell circuit training, running, lacrosse, soccer, volleyball, or spinning. I started spinning at REV because I didn't want to kill myself attempting to run outside in the winter, I despise treadmills, and driving to UB's north campus proved to almost be detrimental to my health a few times in winter. I would also call myself a distance runner, as I've never been particularly fast, so I enjoy the fact you guys make me train doing something I hate and am terrible at; sprinting.

2. Describe your BWE (best workout ever) in just three words.
Ready to vomit (afterwards of course). OR Nothing (left) in tank.

3. What song are you obsessed with right now?
Death From Above 1979- Right On, Frankenstein!

4. Is there a mantra that motivates you?
"Be the best possible version of yourself." I try to change and adapt to find that version, knowing that it's a purposefully unobtainable goal... there's always something you can improve on.

5. What are two things you just can't start your day without?
Coffee/pre-work out (sometimes both depending on how sleep deprived I am) and breakfast, in my Yoda slippers.

6. What's the healthiest thing in your fridge right now?
Pabst Blue Ribbo-oh wait, healthiest...Pomegranate juice (base of my morning fruit smoothie).

7. What was the last vacation you took?
Last vacation was to visit friends in Austin, Texas. Heading to Portland/Seattle/and Vancover first week of April.

8. This or that?
TRX or Spin: Spin
AM or PM workouts: PM. (I work nights, if I'm up in the morning its because I haven't slept yet).
Buffalo Spring or Buffalo Summer: Buffalo Summer

1. Tell us a little bit about your fitness journey.

I grew up playing team sports and continue to play volleyball twice a week. Having scoliosis, it is very important that I regularly exercise to keep my body strong and in alignment in order to continue playing sports. TRX and yoga have been life savers. They've helped tremendously in building my strength, flexibility, and keeping me out of pain TRX and yoga are my go-to's, but I cannot leave spinning out of the mix. I LOVE cheese, bread, and sweets, making those calorie busting rev spin classes a necessity.

2. Describe your BWE (best workout ever) in just three words.
Invigorating, rewarding, balanced.

3. What song are you obsessed with right now?
Bad Suns- Dancing on Quicksand

4. Is there a mantra that motivates you?
The best investment you can make is in yourself.

1. Tell us a little bit about your fitness journey.
Lets just say I was sometimes LKP (last kid picked) in gym class due to my lack of athletic ability, haha. Before coming to Revolution the only exercise I regularly got was from riding my bicycle to and from work. I always tried to get into a fitness routine but my attempts would never last for more than a week or so. I would constantly make excuses for myself, like saying that I needed a gym buddy to motivate me. This past September I read about Revolution on a Buffalo Rising article and something just clicked. Summer was just ending and I knew I needed to do something to stay in shape because biking season was pretty much over for me (wish I was brave enough to keep going through the winter!). I told myself that if I really wanted to get into a workout routine, I needed to be the one to motivate myself or it wasn't going to happen. I can honestly say that I have never felt more comfortable or welcomed at a gym, and that is the biggest reason why I have kept coming back. This week marks 6 months since I started, and I have taken around 100 classes! I'm getting stronger everyday and I love showing off my new "guns" to my friends at parties. ;)

2. Describe your BWE (best workout ever) in just three words.
Pain then smiles.

3. What song are you obsessed with right now?
Gahh i'm so bad with new music. But its spring now, which means i'll probably listen to 90's pop, 80's hair metal, or Disco on repeat. "Let the Drums Speak" by Fatback Band is a good one.

4. Is there a mantra that motivates you?
"You already woke up at 5am to get here so you might as well work." - Probably both Amanda and Colleen have said something along the lines of this and it works.

5. What are two things you just can't start your day without?
My hungry cat meowing and stepping on my face until he gets fed ... and an egg sandwich.

6. What's the healthiest thing in your fridge right now?
Homemade almond milk.

7. What was the last vacation you took?
What's that? ... jk. I took a lot of mini vacations last summer to go to music festivals, but I'm REALLY looking forward to my cross country road trip to Colorado this summer!

8. This or that?
TRX or Spin: TRX
AM workouts or PM workouts: AM
Buffalo Spring or Buffalo Summer: Summer!! I love the positive energy this city has when the weather starts getting warmer.
