Little known fact about Amber, this week's Monday Motivator: She was the first person to buy a Rev package when we opened back in 2014. Amazing! Plus she's fun, adventurous, kind and has a perfectly positive take on life. And now that we know she was a GroupX instructor back in the day ... we may just come a-callin' Amber! 1. Tell us a little bit about your fitness journey.
I was an athlete all throughout middle and high school, but when I got to college I had to find something else. What I missed most about playing sports was someone else pushing me and the social aspect, so in college I fell hard for group fitness classes. After my freshman year, I was actually invited to teach some of these classes. It was the best job for a 19 year old – getting paid to work out?! Yea!

Since graduating, I’ve gone through phases of inactivity mostly because I let a lot of other things come before fitness unfortunately. I’m working on that because I realize how much happier I am when I do make time for myself. But I also struggled to commit to regular workouts because I tried to force myself to like some activities I just never will. I found I love Spin, TRX and Bikram Yoga. I hate rock climbing and running. If you do what you love, it’s a heck of a lot easier to stick with it.

2. Describe your BWE (best workout ever) in just three words.
Hiking Whiteface Mountain.

3. What song are you obsessed with right now?
“Work” by Rihanna feat. Drake.

4. Is there a mantra that motivates you?
“You have the same 24 hours as Beyonce,” because what’s more motivating than Queen Bey? Or “Be so good they can’t ignore you,” from Steve Martin.

5. What are two things you just can't start your day without?
1) Hitting snooze at least 4 times, 2) a podcast like This American Life / Love + Radio / Fresh Air.

6.  What's the healthiest thing in your fridge right now?
My boyfriend works at the co-op, so there’s always something ultra-healthy there. Right now, it’s probably 2 different types of sprouts.

7. What's the oldest thing in your fridge right now?
Any condiment. I bought some German-style mustard from a nice man sampling at Wegmans about 2.5 years ago, and it’s still in there!

8. This or that? Choose one:
TRX or Spin: Ugh, I have to choose? Spin then because it’s the only cardio I have fun doing.
AM workouts or PM workouts: PM. I wish I was a 5:45 a.m.-er, but I think I slept through more early a.m. workouts than I actually made it into the studio for. One day...
Jeans or yoga pants: YOGA PANTS!

1. Tell us a little bit about your fitness journey.
A long, long time ago in a Pennsylvania hick-town not really that far away…
I played sports year-round in high school and was always outside hiking, riding bike, or swimming. I managed to keep the fitness train rollin’ through college and into my mid-twenties, but somewhere in there the “blerch” happened (queue sad music). One day, as I approached my 30s, I looked at a photo and thought, “Oh $#@!”(queue motivational music). I did a weight loss challenge at work, started eating healthier, and discovered group fitness classes. I lost 25 pounds. Now, I’m focused less on weight and more on fitness….and video games…..but, mostly fitness.

2. Describe your BWE (best workout ever) in just three words.
TEE ARRRR EXXXX – That’s what it stands for, right?

3. What song are you obsessed with right now?
Born Ruffians’ entire album Ruff is phenomenal.

4. Is there a mantra that motivates you?
“Squeeze your cheeks! If you don’t squeeze ‘em, nobody else will.” – David Pendley on proper form.

5. What are two things that you can’t start your day without?
Breakfast and the unrealistic hope of taking a nap later on.

6. What’s the healthiest thing in your fridge right now?

7. What’s the oldest thing in your fridge right now?
Water. My fridge is totally empty! @Wegmans – help!

8. This or That? Choose one:
TRX or Spin:
AM workouts or PM workouts:
Yoga Pants or Jeans:
Yoga pants

Monday Motivators: Meet Kara

This doll of a Monday Motivator is just about as positive as they come. Her great attitude gets her through some seriously intense Rev workouts - and we'd by lying if we said her good vibes didn't inspire us through the burn, too. A big thanks to Kara for taking the time out of her busy, all-consuming house renovation to answer our questions! Meet Kara in the Q&A below.

1. Tell us a little bit about your fitness journey.
I started going to the gym regularly during my junior year in college in order to get into shape before spring break. Since then I always seem to be the most focused when I have some goal to work towards. Right now, I have Vegas on the calendar!

I had a personal trainer for about a year, but what I liked best was when we would do group training. I don’t know if it brings out some sort of competitive nature in me or what, but since then I got hooked and started trying out all sorts of classes. I have seen great results with spinning and the spin/ cross-training combo classes, which has become my favorite kind of workout over the last 3 years.

If I’m not getting a workout in at Rev, I’m out taking advantage of all the great outdoor activities this city has to offer. I absolutely love living in Buffalo because I get to spend my winters skiing, my summers kayaking, and on any-given, non-blizzard day you can go for scenic walks around Chestnut Ridge’s Eternal Flame, or the gorge at Niagara Falls!

2. Describe your BWE (best workout ever) in just three words.
Strong. Sweaty. Savasana.

3. What song are you obsessed with right now?
My taste in music is pretty eclectic, so I can’t narrow it down to just one! Here are some of my “fitness favorites”:

As I’m driving to my workout: Head Automatica – “Beating Heart Baby”

During a heavy hill: Whitney Houston – “My Love is Your Love” (thanks Rachel!)

What I’m constantly hitting repeat on: Justin Bieber & Selena Gomez Mashup – “Love Yourself / Hands to Myself”

4. Is there a mantra that motivates you?
“Have pride in how far you have come. Have faith in how far you can go.”

5. What are two things you just can't start your day without?
COFFEE… and then something to eat. I’m always starving when I wake up.

6. What's the healthiest thing in your fridge right now?
Most likely fruits and veggies; and if no one has finished them off: chocolate protein peanut butter power balls!

7. What's the oldest thing in your fridge right now?
Well, I’m currently living with my parents, where my brother and sister both live too, so food doesn’t last very long around there. I’m going to go out on a whim and say… soy sauce?

8. This or that? Choose one:
TRX or Spin:
AM workouts or PM workouts:
PM during the week, mornings on the weekend!
Yoga pants or jeans:
Yoga pants, no contest!

1. Tell us about your fitness journey.
I’ve always been active and interested in trying new routines/activities. I’ve cycled and practiced yoga for over 15 years. I’m in my happy place on my bike or mat. I’ve realized relatively recently how important having a community of amazing people to enjoy fitness is - both to mind + body. Revolution is an amazing community that allows everyone to laugh, sweat, and have fun.

2. Describe your best workout ever (BWE) in three words.
Outside Sweating [with] Friends!

3. What song are you currently obsessed with?
Coldplay - Adventure of a Lifetime. Chris Martin is a genius.

4. Do you have a mantra that motivates you?
Life doesn’t happen to you, life happens for you. Courtesy of Catherine Cook-Cottone (Buffalo Power Yoga).

5. What are two things you can’t start your day without?
Bootleg Bucha (Buffalo’s Kombucha brewers!) and Pandora - Indie Dance Radio.

6. What's the healthiest thing in your fridge right now?
Well, I moved this past week and have been living on take out. So, unfortunately, the healthiest thing in my fridge is General Tso’s Chicken.

7. What is the oldest thing in your fridge right now?
General Tso’s Chicken.

8. TRX or Spin? That’s like King Solomon splitting the baby. Spin! Nothing better than a good, solid climb.

9. AM or PM workouts? AM workouts.

10. Yoga pants or jeans? Jeans.
