Monday Motivators: Meet Kim

While she may have once compared a TRX class to Dante's Inferno, the lovely Kim always brings 110% to her workouts. She's on her feet most of the day/night, but that doesn't stop her from rockin' classes in the early morning and later evening - she fits it in!

Kim's all over the schedule - so be sure to say hi when you see this fabulous Monday Motivator in classes this week!

1. How long have you been part of the indoor cycling world? How about TRX?
I began doing TRX about a year ago with Colleen at Fierce Fitness. I loved this method of training from the start, so when Revolution opened, I had to follow her. Spinning, on the other hand, took a while for me to appreciate, but now it's my favorite cardio.

2. What goals has Rev helped you to achieve?
I really haven't felt this strong since I was in my 20's. Yes, I've lost some weight in the process, but the real goal I've met is just being the healthy and feeling really strong. It may not look it when I'm struggling with a suspended lunge, but this fitness program makes me happy and feel grounded for the rest of my day.

3. Fall is here! What's your favorite way to enjoy the season locally?
Fall is my favorite time if year in Buffalo. I love the outdoors and hope to get a hike or maybe even a camping trip in before the cold weather arrives. My time is limited since starting a new job, so even a stroll through Forest Lawn brings me a lot of peace and tranquility.

4. Tell us a fun fact about you.
For most of my life I swam competitively. The butterfly was my stroke, hence my upper body strength. My fitness journey has made me feel like a "contender" once again.

5. What song really gets you Revved up during spin & TRX classes?
Hmmm ... favorite would probably be JLo's "Move Your Body," but I must say, Brandon's playlist is always kick ass from start to finish.

Keep up the great work Kim - we love the energy and spirit you bring to every class with you!

Monday Motivators: Meet Alie

Alie is a crazy hard worker, whether she's committing to an extra rep at the studio, going above & beyond for the students she teaches, or at her part-time job as a waitress. We don't know how she does it all, but we are glad she finds time to light up Rev with her bubbly personality. Happy Monday RevFam!

1. How long have you been part of the indoor cycling world? How about TRX?

I have been part of the indoor cycling world since January of 2013. I made a New Year’s resolution to get into shape but I didn’t enjoy working out on my own and preferred group classes. I have a recurrent knee issue and was told that I should try indoor cycling as a lower impact cardio workout instead of running. I was hooked when I found Rachel’s classes. Her upbeat music and personality always kept me motivated. That same year I tried my first TRX class with Colleen. It was a challenging workout and I was sore for days, but I couldn’t wait to go back! It was difficult to balance going to different places in order to get the workouts that I wanted. At one point I belonged to three different gyms! When I found out that the girls were opening Revolution, combining both indoor cycling and TRX, I was stoked. I finally found my niche in the fitness world here at Rev!

2. What goals has Rev helped you to achieve?

Rev has helped me with my #1 fitness goal: getting my butt to the gym in the first place! I’ve met an awesome group of motivating workout friends here at Rev who hold me accountable and keep me motivated to attend classes four times a week. It can be tough to get to the gym after a long day at work, especially when I work both a full time and a part time job, but all of us share a similar commitment to fitness and keep our workouts entertaining and motivating. (We also share a similar commitment to brunch every Saturday morning after class.) Rev has also helped me become much more consistent with getting strength training in along with cardio workouts. Rev+TotalBody classes are my absolute favorite because they’re the best of both worlds!

3. Fall is here! What's your favorite way to enjoy the season locally?

Whether I’m walking my dog around the Elmwood Village or riding horses in Sanborn, you’ll probably find me outdoors this time of year. I absolutely love fall in Western New York and I’m trying my best to enjoy the weather before the snow.

4. Tell us a fun fact that we don't know about you.

The Rev saddle isn’t the only saddle that you’ll find me in! I have been horseback riding since I was just 5 years old.

5. What song really gets you Revved up during spin & TRX classes?

I love anything with a good beat to keep me Revved up …a nd the louder the better! Skrillex remixes are the best. Right now my current favorite is “Take U There” (feat. Kieza), by Skrillex and Diplo. Every time I hear it all I think about is those tap back push-ups!

Monday Motivators: Newlywed Edition

There is a great feeling of community when a group is sweating together. It's why we feel so connected, why we have had so many requests for corporate rides & private party rides, and why we've been seeing a lot of our newlyweds in here pushing each other to be their very best. We all love working out as a group because it helps keep us motivated and push beyond where we think we can. Add the extra boost of being held accountable by your husband or wife and getting to get your competition on, and it's the perfect formula for a great workout schedule.

These three fun couples were sweating for the wedding together, and are keeping it up post-big day.

Mara & Steve, 8/22, Camp Pathfinder, Canada.
Mara & SteveMara & Steve

1. How did the two of you meet?

Steve and I met working at a canoe tripping summer camp in northern Ontario. Being outdoors and staying active has always been an important part of our relationship.

2. What is the biggest benefit of sweating together?

Working out at Rev together has become a part of our weekly routine. Even though there isn't much time to interact between tap backs and push-ups, there is something comforting about tackling the challenge together. Also, a little marital competition never hurt anyone, right?

3. If you could make a soundtrack for your hubby/wife's workout what three songs would you pick?

(This was hard!) Steve's song choices for me:
  • 'Whip'- Silento (I have to say I danced to this in my wedding dress ... glad no one got it on video ...)
  • 'Anything' - Kygo
  • 'Say My Name' - Odesza
Mine for Steve:
  • 'Let It Ride' - Ryan Adams
  • 'This Must Be the Place' - Talking Heads
  • 'Praise You' - Fat Boy Slim
4. How do you motivate each other if one half of the equation doesn't want to work out?

I'm usually the one to drag my feet. Over the course of 6.5 years, we've come to realize I'm much more pleasant to be around if I've exercised; Steve frequently, *gently* reminds me of that fact!

5. Favorite post-workout routine?

EAT.

6. What do the two of you enjoy doing during your free time away from training?

Away from training, Steve and I love making trips to Lake Placid for hikes and adventures. We also love that it's football season! I joined Steve's fantasy league against my good judgement, and it has kind of consumed our household. Go Bills!!

Lindsey & James, 8/28, The Foundry.

1. How did the two of you meet?

James and I went to elementary, middle, and high school together! We can't actually pinpoint when we first met, but we were always friends growing up. A few years after college we reconnected, and a few years after that we started dating.

2. What is the biggest benefit of sweating together?

Working out together has brought us closer as a couple. When we first stared dating, James asked me to play tennis with him. I was so nervous! He is a natural athlete (D1 hockey star) and I'm not. We wound up having the best time. He was so patient, and taught me a lot! Tennis is still one of our go to activities. And sometimes he even lets me win :)

3. If you could make a soundtrack for your hubby/wife's workout what three songs would you pick?

Any Green Day song like 'Basket Case', something top 20 like 'Shut Up and Dance' by Walk the Moon, and then a Coldplay song for the cool down ('Talk' is one of our favorites).

4. How do you motivate each other if one half of the equation doesn't want to work out?

Lay on the guilt! Just kidding - we all need a day off sometimes, but I think that mixing up our workouts and holding each other accountable helps us both stay motivated. It is a lot harder to skip out on a workout when your husband (or wife) already got a good sweat in. Also, we love spinning together at Rev - it is a fun way to spend time together when our weeks are crazy busy, and it gets us both to the gym!

5. Favorite post-workout routine?

If we workout before work, we always make a green smoothie after. Our favorite recipe is: spinach, unsweetened vanilla almond milk, banana, mango and blueberries. On the weekends, we love going out for breakfast, and if it is nice out, we enjoy relaxing by the pool or going to the beach.

6. What do the two of you enjoy doing during your free time away from training?

We are constantly busy. We love traveling, visiting our favorite restaurants, spending time with friends and family, exploring Buffalo, and taking day trips to Niagara Falls, Ellicottville, or Lewiston.

ALY & TIM
Tim & Aly

1. How did the two of you meet?

At a bar in NYC when we were both living there.

2. What is the biggest benefit of sweating together?

Well, Tim and I are ultra competitive (we both played college sports) and we're especially competitive with each other. Even though it's well known I'm the better athlete of the two (Aly!), we feel we always get a bit more out of the workout when we are together to push each other. We also just like the quality time together, even if it's the short trip to and from the studio to catch up on the day.

3. If you could make a soundtrack for your hubby/wife's workout what three songs would you pick?

Aly for Tim:
  • 'New York' - Beyonce/Jay-Z. We have a sweet spot for NYC since we met and lived there for year together.
  • 'Somebody Loves You' - Betty Who. I love the lyrics and beat.
  • Any Florence and the Machine song, haven't heard one we don't like.
4. How do you motivate each other if one half of the equation doesn't want to work out?

For a while we were both motivated to be in tip top shape for the wedding. Now with our upcoming honeymoon in Hawaii, the friendly reminder of being in a bikini and swim trunks usually motivates us to hit the gym. We always feel SO much better after a workout and reminding the other of the post sweat sesh "high" seems to get us going.

5. Favorite post-workout routine?

Since we usually frequent the evening classes, we typically come home, have a beer or glass of wine and cook dinner.

6. What do the two of you enjoy doing during your free time away from training?

Tim sailing and Aly sunbathing while Tim sails, spending time with family in Youngstown, exploring new areas of Buffalo - as it's still very new to us, and trying new restaurants.

So get on it team! Bring your significant other on in and strengthen those great bonds you've already built!

Monday Motivators: Meet Miranda

Buffalo Bills got you down this Monday? Let Miranda motivate you to head to your go-to fitness routine and get those feel good endorphins rushing. This little lady can't get enough when it comes to TRX, you can find her at Rev almost every day during the week. She knows all about that balance we are always talking about - when she's not working, she's baking. Right now? Anything and everything pumpkin (I see your Snapchats girl!). We love having this strong chick around!

1. How long have you been part of the indoor cycling world? How about TRX?
I really got into spinning about two years ago. I had tried spin classes prior to that, but never kept up with it. TRX was a brand new thing to me when Rev opened and now I can't imagine a week without it!

2. What goals has Rev helped you to achieve?
Rev has helped me build muscle and become much stronger. I was never really sure what to do on my own at the gym, but TRX classes really opened the door to strength training for me. Rev has also showed me how fun workouts can be with the positive energy from all teachers and students.

3. Fall is almost here! What's your favorite way to enjoy the season?
Buying everything pumpkin I see! I also love baking, so I love trying new pumpkin recipes I find on Pinterest (healthy and not so healthy).

4. Tell us a fun fact that we don't know about you.
I have a passion for traveling and exploring new places around the world. I have a long list of places I want to visit that just keeps growing, but I've crossed 9 off that list in the past 3 years.

5. What song really gets you Revved up during spin & TRX classes?
Pretty much any hip hop or rap music gets me Revved up, but my favorite spin song is "Throwback" by B.o.B and Chris Brown for tap back push-ups.
