Monday Motivators: Meet Sergio

You all know and love him, so it was about time this energetic Italian made his way onto the Monday Motivator circuit. Meet Sergio this Monday - although if you have ever been to Rev, you have definitely already met him! This man can touch the ceiling when he adds the hop at the top of a burpee and can also give the three of us an eye-roll like no other. Not only is he serious about his health and fitness but he is an incredibly caring and giving person, whether it is printing out important news articles for us or others to read, bringing in travel books when he hears clients are going to Italy (have fun this week Matt & Katie!), or spending an evening enjoying some delicious pasta and giving into the "wine-pressure!" No one drinks more espresso or brings more energy than today's motivator, keep up the amazing work Sergio!

1. How long have you been part of the indoor cycling world? How about TRX?
I started taking cycling and cross training classes in December of 2013. It wasn’t until June of 2014 that I discovered TRX classes.

2.  What goals has Rev helped you to achieve?
The Revolution TRX and spin classes have been an especially great workout for me.  They have helped me to reach my goals, including losing almost 5% body fat and to become stronger overall. I love TRX because it has all the benefits of strength, cardio and agility training. It has really helped me to become more coordinated and push myself farther than I ever thought I could go. Sometimes I am sore and tired, but it’s worth it! For me, the TRX classes at Revolution are the best classes I’ve ever taken and I truly love them – they have changed my life (and my friends say I’ve become obsessed)!!!!

3.  Summer time is (still) here! What's your favorite way to enjoy Buffalo's great weather?
Although I’d rather be enjoying the nice weather sitting at a café in Venice, I enjoy how the fleeting warm Buffalo weather brings people together. I like spending time with my friends over lunches and dinners. I also enjoy being able to spin outside and take in the beautiful Canal Side views.

4. Tell us a fun fact that we don't know about you.
During my last trip to Paris I went to the Moulin Rouge on New Year’s Eve – seriously, the REAL Moulin Rouge! It cost $400 to get in and it was… a very interesting experience!!! There were some very friendly women there ;)

5. What song(s) really gets you Revved up during spin & TRX classes?
I like most songs played at Rev… but I can tell you what I don’t like! I don’t like Brittany Spears or Michael Jackson – they don’t amp me up enough. So take them off the playlist :-P

Monday Motivators: Meet Suzanne

Good morning RevFam. Let's chase away the Monday blues with our latest motivator, Suzanne (and her new puppy, Oscar!). Suzanne has had a very busy few months with a brand new grandson and now, a brand new puppy. She can normally be spotted in our 5:45am classes, although Oscar has been forcing her to change up her schedule a bit. We love how hard Suzanne works and that she's always offering up a smile, even when none of us are quite awake yet in the early morning!

1. How long have you been part of the indoor cycling world? How about TRX?
I started at Revolution in May. Prior to that I was strictly yoga with a bit of Boot Camp. I was very nervous coming to my first class, but felt so welcomed by Rachel, Colleen and Amanda (yes, they all were at my first class). I fell in love with the cycle/TRX combo classes and have never looked back!

2. What goals has Rev helped you achieve?
Cardio was something I really needed to amp up, and this is the perfect place to do that. I feel stronger each week. Another goal that I wasn't expecting, is that the ladies of Revolution are so supportive and kind, that you just feel good being a part of the studio!

3. Summer is (still) here! What's your favorite way to enjoy Buffalo's great weather?
Seriously, its biking around town. My Sunday ride from Kenmore to Canalside and the outer harbor, stopping at Asker's in Delaware Park on the way home!

4. Tell us a fun fact we don't know about you.
Fun Fact #1- I have a 5 month old grandson. Fun Fact #2- by the time this goes to print I will have a new rescue puppy. I need to come to class to keep up with both!

5. What songs really get your Revved up for a RevRide and TRX?
I don't have a favorite song ... but I do like it loud during the 5:45 AM classes!

Monday Motivators: Meet Giorgio & Marcela

We had to say goodbye to our amazing Colombian couple, Giorgio & Marcela this weekend, which we did in true Buffalo-style, by enjoying some delicious pasta at Vino's on Elmwood. Our latest set of Monday motivators only spent a short time in Buffalo, before moving back to D.C. this week. During their time at Rev, they quickly became familiar, smiling faces that we looked forward to seeing each day. Rev may need to take a weekend road trip down to visit - and to make sure they are being taken care of at their DC workout spot!

1. How long have you been part of the indoor cycling world? How about TRX?

It’s actually my first time indoor cycling! I wasn’t sure I was going to like it but Giorgio insisted we tried Rev and I have come to love it! I tried TRX for the first time a few years ago at a gym back in Colombia. It was only a couple of times until I broke my foot (not on the straps!) So you could say it’s my first time too.

Giorgio: Back home I used to go to Real Ryder classes, which is also indoor cycling, but a bit different from Rev. However, I never did it as constantly as we've been doing it here for the last two and a half months. After our first Rev class we were immediately hooked and just knew that we had to sign up. As for the TRX, or as we call it, the "everything hurts the next day" workout, I had also tried it before but Rev's has been completely new because it is more explosive and active.

2. What goals has Rev helped you to achieve?

M: I didn’t think I was going to be able to keep up with working out in any other way than on a treadmill or an elliptical, but the classes at Rev have been a great motivator to work out. I feel I have gained endurance. (I can finally make it through the entire “jumps of two” song!) I also feel I have gained physical strength and toned my muscles in only two months!

G: I tore my right knee's ACL a while ago. One of the great things about REV is that throughout these months, the usual pain and discomfort in my knee has considerably gone down to a point in which I can no longer feel it. This has been the main goal, and one of the best results. Although the aspects of feeling healthy and losing weight are also more than welcomed.

3. Summer time is here! What's your favorite way to enjoy Buffalo's great weather?

M: I just love picnics and the area has such great places to visit. We’ve had quite a few in the past weeks. Anything outdoors during these warm sunny days is totally exciting for me.

G: I'm going to have to go with Marcela on this one and agree that picnics were one of our best activities during the summer. We had our books, a wrap or a sandwich and we were ready to go.

4. Tell us a fun fact that we don't know about you.

M: Buffalo is the ninth city I’ve lived in. I’ve had the great opportunity to get to know amazing places and people and from each place I take one thing I liked the most. The people in Buffalo are among the warmest and friendliest and that’s the #1 thing I’m taking from my stay here.

G: When I was growing up I was a huge fan of Superman. Over the years, it has stuck with me and and I continue to be a big Superman geek.

5. What song really gets you Revved up during spin & TRX classes?

M: I like all the songs you guys play at Rev. Two of my favorite are Back It Up for sprints and that Arabic song for isolations. We’re definitely taking a whole new workout playlist with us!

G: At Rev the best song is Are You Gonna Be My Girl from Jet when we are doing sprints. Outside of Rev the "emergency" song to go to in the workout playlist is Everlong from The Foo Fighters.

6. How do you help each other stay motivated to work out?

M: When one of us suggests not to work out on that day, it’s the other one’s job to insist and drag the first one into it. Once we’re there, it’s all about the fun.

G: It's mostly about having fun when we work out, so we try to make it as fun as possible. We sit together in class and we often turn to each other and just make the other laugh with a funny face or comment. Even in the days in which we are a little tired, it's just 2 minutes into the class and we are happy we decided to go.

Monday Motivators: Meet Melissa

Thoughtful, beautiful and downright strong, this week's Monday Motivator is a TRX and spin queen, bringing a positive attitude to the studio every class. Keep an eye out for Melissa in evening and Saturday classes - she's always wearing the latest and greatest RevGear - and dancing along to the beat. We don't call her MGlow for no reason - she radiates good vibes from the inside out. Get it, Glow!

1). How long have you been part of the indoor cycling world? How about TRX?
I have dabbled with cycling on and off over the last couple of years but have been cycling consistently 3-5 times per week over the last solid year. I’d like to thank Rev for introducing me to TRX, which I started doing once the studio opened in January. Only a few months in and I already see MAJOR results. I am the strongest I have ever been. I like to refer to myself as the “Push-Up Queen” as I can now seriously push up for days! Ask Spencer, he’ll tell you about the time I beat him in a TRX push-up battle!

2. What goals has Rev helped you to achieve?
For me, Rev has held true to their mantra and truly helped me to achieve personal goals in mind, body, and community. After graduating graduate school a few years ago, I had a difficult time adjusting to post graduate life and was working a job that literally sucked the life out of me. I had gained weight from stress, was feeling exhausted and had lost touch with taking care of myself (physically and mentally- something that had once been a priority). I have always been big into working out (primarily running, weight training, and playing soccer during my school years) and needed to get back into it. Rev has brought back the spunk, energy, and confidence that I had lost in myself during those years, and for that, I am truly grateful to Rachel, Colleen, and Amanda. Thank you girls! In terms of community, I’ve gained exactly that, a sense of community here in Buffalo. I have been living here for the last 6 years and through Rev I now feel that sense of community that had previously been lacking. I have met some pretty BAD ASS (can I say that on here?) individuals through the #RevFamily. I’ve gained what I foresee to be some lifelong friendships and relationships. Rev Family, you rock! If I don’t know you personally yet, I hope to. I’ll probably say hi and introduce myself to you sooner than later!

3. Summer time is here! What’s your favorite way to enjoy Buffalo’s great weather?
When I think summer I envision beaches/pools, sunshine, grilling, and being in the company of family and friends. I spend my summers either traveling back home to Syracuse to have weekend cookouts/campfires with my family or I enjoy the local beaches and beer gardens here in Buffalo. After all, I did all this working out so I can enjoy a few cocktails. My favorite Buffalo summer spot is Canal Side/Navy Park. I can’t get enough of sitting outside along the water, drink in hand, just fascinated by the battle ships. Such a cool piece of history to have in our backyard!

4. Tell us a fun fact that we don’t know about you.
Fun fact, fun fact, hmm. Such pressure! How about, I am not a natural blonde. With that being said, blondes really do have more fun!

5). What song really gets you Revved up during spin & TRX classes?
I love anything with a heavy, quick beat and am big into rap and house music/remixes. Rev specifically…one of my favorite rappers is Big Sean and love the Dance (A$$) remix Rachel has us climb to! I also have a love/hate relationships with the tabatas that usually cap off one of Amanda’s spin classes. Non-spin related, I have a soft spot for Taylor Swift. I’m really big into music and like a little mix of everything! If you look closely, you’ll catch me singing/rapping/dancing while cycling or in-between rounds on the TRX. I apologize for my dance moves. I can’t help myself.

Monday Motivators: Meet Kailey

Good morning everyone - meet our soon-to-be bride Kailey, fresh off of her bachelorette weekend in Las Vegas! Kailey is known for her two-a-day Rev habit, she rises and Revs with us for 5:45am and more often that not, comes back in for a second helping in the evening. This motivator not only totally rocks at cycling and TRX, but is a pretty stellar yogi as well (we've all seen her hold that isometric tricep push up!) You can't miss that sweet smile, so make sure you thank her for bringing the motivation and tell her what a beautiful bride she will be in a few short weeks! Check out her answers below, especially #2, where she hits on what we really hope to achieve here, creating a place to bond with other like-minded and amazing people.

1.  How long have you been part of the indoor cycling world? How about TRX?

I first tried cycling many years ago and I actually hated it. It took time, along with trying out many classes to find the right fit for me, but I very slowly learned to love it. Great music, energetic instructors and comfortable seats make all the difference! I started incorporating it into my weekly workouts about a year and a half ago. Now I’m hooked, and lately I seem to be doing cycling more than any other cardio.
I first tried TRX with a personal trainer a few years ago and loved it. I’ve never been much of a ‘weight lifter’ so doing strength training with my own body weight is something that really works for me. The gym I joined when I moved to Buffalo didn’t offer any TRX classes or equipment, so I was thrilled when Rev opened up nearby! I’ve now been doing TRX regularly for about 5 months.

2.  What goals has Rev helped you to achieve?
Prior to starting at Rev, I mainly stuck to running and power yoga. Rev has helped me to switch up my cardio workouts and incorporate more strength and interval training. My muscles have become more toned and I feel stronger overall; as a bride-to-be that’s definitely an accomplishment!

On a non-fitness related note, Rev has helped me to meet an amazing community of people in a city that I’m relatively new to. I moved to Buffalo less than two years ago and found that it isn’t very easy to meet people outside of work. Attending classes at Rev has really helped me with that. I love the positive, welcoming atmosphere that Amanda, Colleen and Rachel have created and can see how that attitude is contagious among other class attendees.

3.  Summer time is here! What's your favorite way to enjoy Buffalo's great weather?
Give me some sunshine, a patio & a cocktail - or even a juice at Ashker’s - and I’m one happy girl!

I love jogging to Hoyt Lake in the mornings before it really heats up and walking around the Elmwood Village after a long day of work to catch up with my fiancé (especially if there’s a Lloyd truck nearby!).

4.  Tell us a fun fact that we don't know about you.
I once had the opportunity to attend the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show! At the time, I was living in NYC and actually had to audition to be a part of the audience that surrounded the stage. It was very cool to see it all come together in person and pretty awesome to see those VS Angels up close, too!

5. What song really gets you Revved up during spin & TRX classes?

There are so many great songs each of the instructors play that get me moving ... I can’t just pick one! I do really love the throwback rap/hip-hop songs though – especially when Missy Elliott comes on.
